I'm not the best judge of appearances when I'm upside down, but even in such an awkward position, I could tell that this girl was gorgeous. I unfolded myself as quickly as I could, straightening up and giving a half wave to the newcomers. Now that I was standing, I could see that the girl was tiny, not even five feet tall, and her dad was a few inches shorter than me too.
"Hey, sorry for the odd introduction. I'm Nat. Nat Middleton." I held my hand out tentatively, not really sure how to introduce myself to people who just got a great look at my ass encased in my yoga pants.
They both just stared for a moment, then the father stepped forward with a tentative smile and shook my hand. "Jacob. Jacob Kelly. This is my daughter Kit." He had a good grip and seemed like a nice guy with pale skin and brown hair.
Kit had tan skin and black hair even darker than the wig I was wearing, and deep brown eyes that were currently downcast. She seemed terribly nervous and was young enough that she might feel awkward out on her own. I felt bad, and hoped that she'd open up a little, otherwise it would be a boring two weeks with a roomie that never talked. Maybe I could help her come out of her shell? Not that I was much of a people person, but I was okay one on one. "It's very nice to meet you both. Umm... I left the room with the window view for you, but I can switch if you like."
Jacob smiled, looking down at his daughter. "That sounds pretty good, what do you think, Minnow, want to take a look?"
Kit flashed me a quick look, then gave one quick nod before walking towards the back room with one of the roller bags. I stepped back to give them room, and her dad followed her, flashing me a grateful smile. Did she not like me, or was she really this shy? I wasn't going to continue my workout at that point, I had already made them uncomfortable, so I just turned off the music and retreated to my room for a quick shower. My normal shower time was going to be too long if I wanted to make lunch time in the cafeteria, so I hurried and then got dressed in some loose fitting jeans, a tank top and short sleeve flannel before putting on the blue wig. It was calling to me today.
I went back out into the common area, and could still hear Kit and her dad talking, so I sat down with my phone and decided to cyber stalk my new roommate. Kita Kelly, age 18 from Los Angeles. Lived with her grandmother most of the year for training. Goes by Kit and came in second place in the 10 meter platform event in Olympic qualifying for the US team. Missed the Tokyo games due to a shin injury suffered right before the games. Damn, she must be good cuz she would have only been 15 then! Not that I was much older, only 17 at the time of the Tokyo games, but still, that was impressive. She was in a tough sport too, China has been dominating women's diving competition lately, so she would be hard pressed to medal in it unless she was stellar.
But I'd still try to help her get through this. I mean, I did have a whole four days of experience on her from my last try at the Olympics, right? Ha. Like that would help. Regardless, she seemed quite timid, and I was an introvert, so we could hide in here and be hermits when we weren't practicing. It might be less lonely, unless she really was afraid of me, in which case I was going to have to come up with another plan.
I didn't have much chance to learn more, as it was a tiny bio, when the pair came out of her room. Her father approached me, rubbing the back of his neck and a grimace on his face. He gave a double take when he saw my new hair but didn't say anything about it. "Nat, I know this is a lot to ask since we just met, but I was hoping to ask a favor."
"Of course, go right ahead," I assured him.
"Well, you see, Kit was home schooled, and hasn't been around boys. We're a little worried that she might be naïve when it comes to the opposite sex. Now, you're pretty intimidating, no offense, so I was hoping that maybe you could keep an eye on her?" he explained while Kit stood blushing behind him, her eyes trained on the floor.
