That night got a little crazy, and Kit and I got to see a lot of it. Not all, because I still had my 800m heat the following day, but a lot. Bree was the only one with another race, the 4x100m medley relay, but the qualifiers on that weren't for two days, so the rest of the team was ready for a party, and party they did. The celebration was everywhere, with competing music sources making for a cacophony of sounds. People wandered from the cafeteria to the areas around the buildings, and in and out of many of the rooms. We got a firsthand look, in some cases much too closely, as to why so many condoms were needed for the Olympic Village.
Granted, some people didn't need them, as Beth and Denise were all over each other through the night. But others might have needed a lot, like Lisa who was dragging two members of the UK men's swim team to her room. There were a lot of other people partying, as we weren't the only racers of the day, so many medals had been handed out from countries around the world, but many of them I didn't know.
"This is a great party!" Kit exclaimed as she took her usual spot in my lap. We were hanging out in a common area on the ground floor of the dorm building, and just people watching while drinking a little water. We'd done another team dinner, and my mom had tagged along, as had the parents for Demi and Bree. But they'd gone back to their respective hotels, and now it was just time for the partying.
"Yeah, I'm glad they're all athletes and not drunk college kids. I've seen a few of those parties near my apartment, and they're very different." I shuddered at the memories of the stench of beer and weed that drifted on the wind down the street. I didn't miss that at all.
"You don't like those parties?" she wondered. "You wouldn't want to go?"
"No, not at all. Honestly, I wouldn't want you there! You might get lost in the crowd!"
"My hero would protect me." She leaned in, giving me a soft kiss on the cheek. "But I think this kind of party is enough. A celebration of victories, not just a reason to get drunk."
"I mean, the other kind is okay for others, but maybe not for us."
"Denise and Beth seem to be enjoying themselves." She nodded at the pair seated on a couch in the lounge, just as Denise moved to straddle Beth, and hands started going to places that might not be good considering at least a couple of guys were filming them. But they're only 17! I picked up Kit, and quickly walked over to them, pulling Denise gently away from Beth, and noticing that the pair were completely flushed.
"Come on, why don't you take that back to one of your rooms, okay?" I told them, and they both quickly nodded. "Hey! They're both underage! You better delete that video!" I called out to the crowd and saw guys frantically pressing buttons on their phones. Hopefully they could avoid any scandal since I had no idea if either of them were out to friends and family, though I wasn't sure if this was a one-time thing, or they really were into each other.
"Sorry!" Beth blurted as the four of us got into the elevator. "We might have gotten a little carried away."
"We do that all the time!" Kit told her. "But we do it in bed."
"Which is where you should go!" I agreed.
"Do you still want to?" Denise asked Beth.
"Hell yes! I've wanted this for a while!" Beth said, reaching out her hand and gripping Denise's.
"How long have you known each other?" I asked.
"We met maybe a year ago at Nationals, and we've been training together a lot," Denise said. "Honestly, I wasn't sure she liked me, but I guess it all worked out."
"Hell, yeah it did!" Beth pulled her into a hug with a yell. "I'm gonna make you feel so good!"
"Are you two roommates too?" Kit was giggling at them, but I think we acted similarly sometimes so I couldn't blame them.
