Three months later
"How were your classes today?" I asked Kit as we got into the car. She, like me, was taking classes at the Tacoma campus of the University of Washington, which made it easier for us to train over at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center. They had a 10m platform there, so it was perfect for her, and the pool was just what I needed for my swimming. We weren't training nonstop but would spend a couple days a week there before or after classes. Luckily, now that it was a Friday, we had a couple days where we could relax. That meant that we'd go back to our little apartment and live our best lives together.
I'd spent every night snuggling with Kit since the first time she crawled into my bed back in New York, and it just kept getting better. Yes, classes made it a little harder on our schedule, but I was happy to help her with some of the core classes that I'd already taken, and she was great at cooking on nights when I had a bunch of homework. Our personalities matched perfectly, and our sex life was something out of a dream. A very wet dream.
Was it early to talk about marriage? Well, we'd already agreed that she would say yes when I asked, thanks to all the medals we won, but I wasn't really holding her to that. I wanted her to say yes because she loved me as much as I loved her. Tonight, I'd be finding out if that was the case.
We had slightly different class schedules, so on a couple of the days that I had a little time while she was in her class, I went to a jeweler and had a ring made. Granted, I was cheating. I still had the broken Siren's comb, and it was studded with stunning gems. With both of us having the same favorite color, blue, it made it easy for me to pick the gem I wanted. There were a pair of stunning sapphires, one on each side of the comb, and I pried one loose and had it set into a gorgeous gold band. I hoped that she was okay with that, since the comb had almost ruined our relationship, but in the end brought us closer together when we realized what we almost lost. I figured it was fair, since now it would be helping us take the next step and strengthen it even more.
"They were fine. I think I'm finally used to having classes with real people," she replied. She'd been home schooled for so long that she hadn't been in a classroom since elementary school, and it was a big adjustment for her. But she was also a bit of a celebrity on the campus, as there aren't too many Olympic medalists taking classes there. Well, besides me of course. I think we were the only two, and it was nice to see her getting noticed, as she certainly deserved it. Next year we would have two more though, as Beth and Denise had already confirmed that they would be coming after they graduated in the spring and they'd join me on the swim team.
Her status came with a little drama as she got hit on by a lot of guys, which always made her nervous. Thankfully, that all stopped when I started meeting her outside of as many classes as I could and spending every lunch there with her. Maybe having a ring on would completely eliminate the issue, but she was stunning, so who could tell who might ignore it?
With my plans for the night already thought through, I reached over and gently squeezed Kit's leg. "I ordered some sushi for my Sushi if you're okay with that. It's been a long week, and we deserve to relax tonight."
She reached down, squeezing my hand and nodded. "You know I never say no to sushi! Besides, I have a feeling you got all my favorites."
"Of course! You know I got everything you like." I swung into our favorite sushi place, Thekoi, which was pretty close to campus and picked up the order. It was actually more than we usually ate, only because I was hoping that after I popped the question, we'd be in bed all weekend, and I wouldn't have to go get more food since we'd already have it in the fridge.
The rest of the ride home was filled with her telling me about her classes for the day, and then me doing the same. It was nice to be able to connect a little before we got home, though it was a short drive, and then we were in the elevator with our sushi, chattering away.
