Jay's P.o.v.
"Jay! Wake up, dumbass. You can't sleep through training." Kai's voice cuts through my sleep like a warm knife through butter. I groan as Zane tells him off for swearing. Cole laughs and throws my gi at me.
"Oof!"
"Are you alright?" Zane asks, putting his hand behind my back helping me up. "Is your wrist bothering you again? I can get you more painkillers."
"No, it doesn't hurt. I'm just-" I yawn halfway through my sentence. "A bit groggy."
"Ah. The painkillers will do that. Take a moment to get up and get dressed as I talk with Sensei. We need to find a way to train even if your wrist is fractured." Zane says, moving to the door. I nod and he leaves.
Lloyd plops down next to me. He holds out my gi and I accept his help without a word. There was no way I would be able to get dressed without help. From my fractured wrist, to my sore and stiff back, and the overall dull ache that was deep in every single one of my muscles, it was hard just sitting up with Zane's help. Kai laughs at me.
"Oh my goodness, Kai. You are such a dick!" I manage, blushing as Lloyd helps me step into my gi. Cole forces Kai out of the way.
"Go help Zane with breakfast." He says. Kai rolls his eyes and leaves.
"Kai's just annoying you for the fun of it. Ignore him." Lloyd says, helping me up. I move to Cole's side.
"Wow, Lloyd. You are such a bean sometimes." Cole taunts. He turns red. I laugh at them and hurry to the kitchen.
"Y'all gonna come eat"? I call over my shoulder.
"Yeah, yeah."
We head out and eat. Zane sits next to me and stops me from itching underneath the splint. I grumble and he has to gently hold it off to the side. Sensei explains that I will be sitting out of training today, but I will still watch. I fake a smile that seems to satisfy him. When he turns away, I duck my head. Almost two hours just sitting outside watching them fight. I would feel horrible. I'd just be in their way, and they would be mad at me.
Rightfully so. You are just a waste of space.
"No!" I mutter.
"What?"
I glance up and see Lloyd staring at me.
"I-I uh,"
"What? Cat gotcha tongue?" Kai teases. Cole rolls his eyes.
"I was just telling Lloyd that your hair looks great! I was wondering how you got it to curl out your nostrils like that?" I silently thanked my parents for giving me the ability to come up with a good comeback.
"Oooh!" A low cheer goes up from the table.
"Oh! So are we doing this now? Bring it on. Go ahead and try again, lover boy." Laughter fills the room as Kai speaks.
"Ya know, porcupine, if laughter is the best medicine, your face must be curing the world."
"Oh yeah? Your face looks like it caught fire and someone put it out with a baseball bat."
"I'd love to see it from your perspective, but I don't think I could get my head that far up your ass."
"Your lips are moving but all I hear is 'blah blah blah.'"
"You tried really hard, didn't you? I'm proud. I've always rooted for the little guy. That's why I'm rooting for your dick."
"Oh, he got you there!" Cole chimes in. Kai sends him a glare.
"Keep talking. You might say something intelligent."
"Sorry, hair gel, but someone has to tell you. Acting like a prick doesn't make yours grow."
"I- ugh. Fine. You win."
I smirk and Nya pats my back. Zane reminds us to get ready for training, and I feel my smile hollow out. The familiar sick sensation settles in my gut, and I stand and take a seat outside. Let's see how far I make it this time. I think with a sick smile.
Hey guys! I finally published the story I promised ages ago! Just a reminder, this takes place in my NormalAge AU where the grundle never happened and Lloyd stayed at Darkley's untill he was sixteen. I'm not sure where exactly this takes place relative to the seasons, but I don't think it will matter. Anyways, hope you enjoyed!
