I stare down at my reflection and examine my outfit and hair with so much intensity that I'm scaring myself. Why am I so self conscious all of a sudden? I'm only going to a family reunion, it's not like anyone's going to judge my appearance. It's not like...

It's not like he's going to look at me.

Who's he, you ask? He is my cousin's friend, and I know for a fact that he will be at this party tonight because he always comes. I think most of my relatives forgot c/n's not actually a part of our family because of how much time he spends with all of us.

I let out a heavy sigh and force my eyes away from the mirror before I can find a flaw to agonize over for the whole night. I pull on my jacket and head out to the car, where my parents are waiting on me.

"Ready to leave?" my dad asks, looking over his shoulder as I drop down into the back seat.

I nod my head in response and focus my eyes on the car window.

[Time Skip]

I follow my parents out of the car and to the front door of my cousin's house, where the party is being held. After a few moments, the door opens and my aunt welcomes us in with a warm smile.

My eyes do a wide search of the room as I continue to move along behind my parents. My uncle is sitting on the couch talking with my grandparents, and my aunt is now in the kitchen prepping for dinner. Over there in the corner is my cousin and... and c/n doing something on their phones.

I can't help but let my sights focus on the boy a few feet away from me as I lean against the wall. Mom and dad have started up a conversation with some of my older cousins, so now I'm all alone.

I watch c/n's eyes sparkle as he laughs about something on his friend's phone. The way his chapped lips curl into a lighthearted smile does things to my already racing heart. Still laughing, c/n leans his head up and catches me staring. He lifts his arm up and gives me a friendly wave, which I return awkwardly.

He shakes his head slightly before moving his attention back to his friend. I look down at my feet and pat the front pockets of my jeans.

Hey, I think, he noticed me.

A humble smile spreads onto my lips and my cheeks start to burn, just because he noticed me. It's kind of funny how much a simple gesture can change my whole attitude in only a few seconds.

"Dinner's ready!" my aunt calls from the kitchen, where she is setting out platters of food on the table with the help of my mom.

I push myself off the wall and make my way to the dining table. I sit down at the end of the table so that there is no one to my left and an empty seat to my right.

I look down at my lap and cross my arms across my chest as the others file into their own seats. Someone taps on my shoulder and I lift my head up to see c/n, who is standing beside me.

"Is it okay if I sit by you?" he asks, already pulling out the chair by mine.

"Yeah, that's fine," I reply.

c/n gives me one of his sweet smiles as he gets comfortable in his seat. He maneuvers his body so that he's facing me. We begin to stare at eachother with grins on our faces, and I can't help myself from trailing my sights down to his lips. These chairs are so close together that I could easily lean forward a little bit and kiss him. But I don't.

Everyone starts to pile their plates with food, but I'm not feeling very hungry anymore. My stomach is all messed up from the things that c/n makes me feel. It's as if there's bats instead of butterflies flying around in my stomach, clawing at my sides.

c/n clears his throat, making me jump out of my thoughts and I meet his gaze again. He nods his head to my empty plate.

"Aren't you gonna eat??"

I shake my head and say, "I'm not hungry."

A look of worry crosses his face and he grabs a platter of food from the table and begins to spoon it onto both of our plates.

"Well, you gotta eat something."

I relunctantly take a bite of the food and give him a hum of thanks. He slides his leg under the table so that it grazes my own. Instead of moving away, he keeps his leg there, and so do I.

Maybe he's doing a bit more than just noticing me.

[Time Skip]

"Thanks for inviting us!" my mom exclaims as we head out of the door.

The others call out goodbyes and I turn around to catch one last glimpse of c/n before we leave. He's standing a few feet away, smiling down at his phone.

A few seconds later, my own phone buzzes and I take it out of my pocket. There's a new text from c/n. He's only texted me a few times before, mostly just asking if I'm coming to a family event or something.

c/n: I really liked being with you today. Do you wanna meet up sometime?

I look back up from my phone to c/n and see him smiling at me expectantly. A small laugh leaves my lips and I text him back quickly.

y/n: I'd love that!!

c/n: 😊💟
