Mary was walking towards the spot where she would meet with Ivan. She had dressed up in the outfit she and Maeve picked out, and put her hair in a simple ponytail. When she saw Ivan, she waved at him. "Hey." She smiled. "Hi."

They walked to the restaurant together, talking about anything and everything. Mary felt very awkward throughout the date, and she realized that she didn't really click with Ivan. When she told him this at the end of the date, he got mad. "What do you mean? You're just not trying." He said.

Mary shook her head. "That is incorrect. I'm sorry, you're just not the right person for me, goodbye." She waved and walked away. After a little she looked back, but he was still standing in the same spot. She started walking faster, and when she got home she slammed the door behind her.

"Have fun on your date tonight!" Mary hugged Maeve goodbye. "Yeah, have fun watching movies tonight." Maeve grinned and closed the door. Mary walked into the kitchen to prepare herself a salad.

She sat down on the couch, opening Netflix. "What shall I watch?" She muttered. She put on Bridgerton, even though she had watched it three times before.

Mary paused the series, looking for her phone that was ringing. When she found it, on the table, she looked at who was calling her. Kris. She picked up. "Hey, it's Mary. Is there something wrong?" She frowned. Kris sounded out of breath, like he had been running. "It's Mae. She's in the hospital. I'm on my way to pick you up, I'll explain everything in the car." Mary nodded. "I'll be ready." She said, putting on her shoes.

Mary scooted in the car next to Jan. Nace was sitting in the passenger seat, and Jure next to Jan. "What happened?" She asked as Kris started driving again. "Nik. He almost raped her, and hit her head to the wall. She has a big wound on her head, and she lost too much blood. She is in a critical condition." Jan explained.

Mary blinked, tears falling down her cheeks. "Is she going to be okay?" She asked. "Hopefully. They think so." Kris said, stopping the car. The group hurried in the hospital, to Maeve's room. The five of them entered the room, standing around the bed.

A shorter woman entered the room. "Who are you?" She asked, her tone strict. "We're her friends. I'm her cousin." Kris said. The woman nodded. "I'm Barb. There are only two people allowed in the room, so can three of you leave?" She raised her eyebrows. "Yes, yes of course. Kris and Mary, you can stay, you are closest to her." Jan said, and the three walked away.

Mary and Kris sat down together, both of them closely observing Maeve. Kris first saw her opening her eyes, and he jumped up, quickly followed by Mary. "Mae! Are you okay?" He asked.

"Never felt better." Maeve joked, a faint smile hanging around her lips. "What happened?" She asked. "You were about to be raped. You hit your head so hard that you started bleeding, and you lost too much blood, so you fainted. Someone chased away the bastard, called the emergency services and explained what happened, but no one knows who that was." Mary explained.

"Whoever it is, you owe them your life." Kris said. "How can Jan be friends with that asshole?" Maeve asked. "He isn't." Kris said, and Maeve looked up. Mary also looked at him confused. "What?" Maeve asked her cousin.

"He just said he was so you would ask the guys number. He had never seen the man before in his life." He explained. Mary smiled to herself.

Jan, Nace and Jure hurried in. "Speaking of the devil." Maeve said, smiling. Jan let out a sigh of relief when he saw that his friend was awake. "Do you know how terrible I feel for saying that he was my friend? If I didn't this wouldn't have happened." Jan said, grabbing Maeve's hand. "It's not your fault." Maeve and Mary said at the same time.

Maeve shot Mary a look and smiled. The six of them talked for a little, but were quickly interrupted by Barb. "Visiting hour is over." She said. The group said their goodbyes to Maeve and left.

Mary sat next to Jan in the car, and nobody said a word. They were all overwhelmed by what happened, and by seeing Maeve in the hospital bed. Mary's house was closest, so she was the first to step out of the car. "Thank you for the ride." She said, and slammed the door close.

She walked back into her house, falling down on the couch. This night was a disaster.
