Mary was laying in bed, turning and turning. She couldn't stop thinking of Maeve in the hospital bed, and she couldn't sleep. She grabbed her phone.

Jan

3:00

Can you sleep?

Nah
I feel terrible

You can come over

Right now?

Yeah
If you want of course

I'd like that

Great
I'll be downstairs

Be right there

Mary sat down on the couch, waiting for Jan to arrive. It didn't take long for the doorbell to ring, and Mary stood up. She opened the door, and hugged Jan. "Come in." She smiled.

"I feel so bad." Jan said when they sat down. "This is one hundred percent not your fault Jan." Mary said. "I know, but-" "No buts." Mary smiled. "Maeve doesn't blame you, so you don't have to blame yourself. Even if she did blame you, she would be wrong. You didn't know this would happen. And Mae will be fine." Jan nodded.

"Thank you." He said. Mary smiled, "Of course. You can always come to me if you need something." She said. "I will." Jan nodded and softly smiled. "I just hope she will be okay." He added. "We all do." Mary said, hugging him tightly.

She layed her head down on his chest, his heartbeat calming her down. Jan smiled to himself, and before they knew it, they fell asleep.

.•*•.•*•.

Mary slowly woke up, feeling very disorientated. She slowly sat up, looking around her. She heard Jan groaning and turned around. "Good morning." She awkwardly smiled. "Morning." Jan said, his morning voice making Mary tingle from the inside.

"I'll make some breakfast." Mary said and she stood up. Suddenly feeling very naked in just her pajamas, she quickly ran to her room to change into a hoodie. She entered the kitchen, and saw Jan already sitting there. He watched her walk through the kitchen, inspecting the cabinets to see what was there.

Mary turned around, and it felt like Jan was staring straight into her soul. She slightly blushed and chuckled awkwardly. "So, I have to do the groceries today, since we have barely nothing. I could maybe make toasts, I think we also still have some avocados." She said.

Jan smiled, "That's totally fine." Mary nodded and turned back around to grab the stuff she needed.

When she was done she sat in front of Jan, the two silently eating their breakfast. "Have you heard anything from your publishers yet?" Jan asked. Mary, who had just taken a bite, quickly swallowed. "Yeah, the first prints have been shipped, so they'll be here in a week or so."

Jan nodded. "That's amazing." He said, looking her in her eyes. Mary slightly smiled and looked back at her food. They sat in silence the rest of breakfast.

"Thanks for letting me stay with you." Jan said, standing at the front door. "Of course. You're welcome." Mary smiled. "If you want, you could eat dinner here tonight? I promise it'll be better than the breakfast." She chuckled.

Jan nodded. "I'd love that." He smiled. "Great. See you tonight." Mary waved, watching Jan walk away. When she couldn't see him anymore she closed the door, walking towards the bathroom to take a shower. The rest of the day Jan didn't leave her mind.
