Wait. Who was that kid?
Even some of the veterans, who'd fought him a couple of times back in the old smash mansion, didn't recognize him. The newcomers stood there confused. Seriously, who was he? They all murmured among each other, Ness could've sworn he'd gotten a few glances and smirks. Ness had been the only one who wasn't completely going insane. He thought back to what he'd been pondering about.
"I wouldn't mind if Lucas came..."
He wouldn't have minded, but he surely wasn't expecting it!
Lucas stepped down, timidly scanning the field for someone he recognized. He played with his fingers, still looking, and looking. Ness waved his arms frantically, and if it hadn't been for Peach making him particularly notable, Lucas would not have seen him. He beamed at Ness, running down towards him, tripping and falling. Ganondorf snickered. The snickers spread quickly, and turned from giggles, to full-out hoots and hollers. "HAH!" "Easy victory!" "What a goof!" "Geez, where's the competition around here!?" Ness sneered, and Peach turned around, frowning at everyone's backs as they all scurried into the smash stadium. She eventually followed them, giving Ness a warm smile as she skipped away. Lucas weeped and looked away.
"It's only my first day... I've already made a fool of myself. I should just quit now..." Lucas sobbed, wrapping his arms around Ness. Ness rubbed the dirt off of his shirt, and hugged him back.
"It'll be all right. You were here before we all had to move to the stadium, right? You'll pick up all your old skills in no time! Trust me." Ness assured. Although, with all the nasty people around the stadium, he wasn't so sure. "We're a team, I'll guide you through."
Lucas looked back at him, blushing. Hearing Ness's sweet voice and comforting words made him feel so relaxed, the tears practically vanishing from his face. Lucas admired his bravery. He wanted to be just like Ness. He'd been considering his feelings for him for a while, but never got the courage to really stand up and ask him to be his boyfriend, let alone to hangout somewhere. He'd always been worried about whether he'd think he's weird for being gay.
Lucas nodded, and they both ran into the stadium.
