School has always been easy for me. A piece of cake.

Which is why it was suggested that I go to Naples Collegiate Prep school.

Having to spend a year at a school that isn't quite a University sounds like it could be a bad thing- but in fact, it was the exact opposite.

Those who attended either Naples Collegiate Prep School or St. Augustine Prep was on the track to go to the most prestigious colleges in the country- and this schooling was to prep them for it.

Originally, Naples Collegiate Prep was the only school for this- until St. Augustine opened- for those who could be on track to go to a prestigious University- but may have gotten into some trouble along the way in school.

For the rest of the first night at school, I got to know my roommates better by eating dinner with them, and taking a walk on campus after we ate.

Overall, I liked all of them. Of course, I knew Amelia. She was always known as a very friendly girl, however she had different friends than I did. Much more friends, to be factual.

At each end of the dorm hallways, there were bathrooms with stalls, shower stalls, and many sinks lined up. I showered and washed my hair. As I was at the sinks applying some of my skincare, Leighton walked into the bathroom.

"Hey, Flora." she said to me, walking up to the sink next to me, toothbrush in hand, "How have you found your first day here?"

"It's been perfectly fine." I said, "I know this year is about to be tough though education-wise."

"At my prep school, I was the valedictorian of my class." Leighton said, "I'm not used to actually feeling apprehensive about schoolwork."

"Hey, at least you're not alone in how you feel." I said, "Normally I wouldn't admit that. But I want you to know I am feeling like the same bundle of nerves.

Leighton cracked a smile, "Thanks, Flora. That does make me feel better. I always feel this expectation to be perfect at what I do. I don't like that you feel the same- but it's good to know I'm not alone."

Leighton then started brushing her teeth, and I applied serum to my pale skin. I then brushed my dark brown, almost black hair that just touched the top of my breasts. I applied some castor oil as well to my lashes and eyebrows, which surrounded my green eyes.

"What are you putting on your eyelashes?" Leighton asked me.

"Oh, it's Jamaican black castor oil. I put it on my lashes and eyebrows every night. Helps them grow." I said, "I can put some in a bottle with a spoolie for you."

"Thanks!" Leighton said, breaking into a smile, "That would be great. Your lashes are so long- maybe mine will wind up looking like yours."

"My mother has made me do this for years." I said, "But you'll see the effects in a few months. By the time it's Christmas Break, I guarantee you will."

"Hopefully time doesn't fly by that fast though." Leighton said, "I'm going to go back to the room to try and get some sleep. You coming?"

"I'll join you in a moment." I said to Leighton.

After Leighton left the bathroom, I looked at myself in the mirror for a moment.

You need to do well this year, Flora. Don't let anyone down. Including yourself.

When I got to the bedroom, the lights were off- and Leighton, Bridgette, and Amelia were lying down.

I made sure to walk over quietly to my bed to not make the floors creak.
