When I got up in the morning, Jameson was still sleeping.
She looked so...peaceful. Which is something I didn't see very much.
Better let her rest.
I got up from the bed quietly and walked out of the room to brush my teeth.
I brushed my teeth in the bathroom, smoothing down my hair from the night prior.
Partial messy hair from sleeping, partially from sex.
I felt my face get hot at the thought of what Jameson did to me last night.
And I could feel that familiar feeling creeping up again...
Stop it.
When I walked out of the bathroom- Joshua was in the hallway, walking out of his bedroom. He was in a t-shirt and a pair of cotton shorts.
"Flora!" he said, "I was just about to make some coffee. Would you like any?"
"Sure." I said, "I could actually use some."
"Come downstairs with me. I assume my sister is still sleeping?"
I nodded, "She is."
"I'm sure you have the same idea as me, to let her sleep. Let's head downstairs."
The kitchen was a small space with a table with two seats in the corner of the kitchen. I sat down in one of the chairs. There was a refrigerator and a gas stove. Joshua started making some coffee, heating up hot water first.
"I've never met anyone before that was friends- or more than friends with my sister- besides Johanna." Joshua said, "I assume you know her too?"
"She's my friend." I said, "Johanna is really great."
"I agree." Joshua said, "She's a good friend to Jameson. And she's a strong girl. I know she's been through a lot."
As Joshua finished up the coffee, he asked me, "Do you like cream and sugar?"
"Yes, please." I said.
Joshua grabbed a small bottle of cream from the refrigerator and a sugar dispenser.
He then set them on the table, along with the cup of coffee had poured, and sat down across from me in the other chair.
"Thank you." I said and started to add some sugar and cream.
Joshua added some sugar only. He then said, "Just curious. Did you know that Jameson had a brother, or did she not even tell you about me?"
"She told me about you, not too long ago." I said.
"Okay." Joshua nodded, "I'm glad she did. She seems to be...softer around you. Of course, she's still herself, but I think you bring out a good side in her."
"You think so?" I asked, taking a sip of my coffee.
"I probably shouldn't say any of this, but lord knows I can't shut my mouth." Joshua said, "How much has Jameson told you about our parents?"
"I know they're not good." I said, "Jameson has said quite a few things about them that sound...terrible."
"Okay." Joshua nodded, "So you get the gist of it. When Jameson was young, believe it or not, she was the sweetest girl. She was so full of life. She would laugh at everything, and she always wanted to talk to people. Even as a little girl, she always wanted to make other people smile, or help them. Even when she was five years old, she would try to hold open doors or carry bags for our mother. I hate what our parents- and this world has done to her."
