"Let's go." Jameson said, and she started to open up the door to the passenger seat of the car.

"Wait!"

Jameson's mother then came walking toward us quickly, her heels clacking on the ground. She was in a nice dress, and her blonde hair was perfectly styled.

That is not what I pictured her to look like.

Jameson turned around to face her mother, fury in her eyes.

"Mother, maybe you should just go inside." Joshua said to her.

Mrs. Bainbridge ignored him, and then walked over to Jameson, until they were facing each other.

I was standing behind them, my heart beating faster than ever.

Her mother turned to face me. She looked at me and said, "Who the fuck are you?"

"That's my girlfriend." Jameson said, her tone icy, "And don't talk to her that way. I promise you'll regret it."

"Oh, you think you're so tough now." her mother said, "You went off to prep school and now you think you can talk to your mother however you want."

"Mother. Go inside." Joshua said, his tone firm.

"No." she said back, and then she faced Jameson again, "I want to know why you didn't go see your father when he was sick in the hospital and needed a liver transplant."

"Because I didn't want to." Jameson said. Her tone was fierce, however, her voice shook a bit, "He didn't deserve it."

"Oh, he didn't deserve it?" Jameson's mother said incredulously, "He's your father."

"And?" Jameson said, gritting her teeth.

"And what? He's your father."

"He was never much of a father." Jameson muttered.

"What did you say?" Mrs. Bainbridge said back.

"I said he was never much of a father." Jameson said loudly, "And you were never much of a mother. Please, I wasn't going to go fucking see him at the hospital. He could have bled out on the operating table for all I care."

"Jameson, please-" Joshua started to say.

"No." Jameson said to him, "Don't tell me to stop. All I did my whole childhood was put up with the abuse of our parents. Every fucking slap in the face. The multiple times when father pushed me down the steps and I had to lie at school and say I tripped. Every time I was told I was a complete failure and mother told me she wished I was never born. And I started to believe it- that I shouldn't have been born.

Jameson then turned to her mother and said, "And that's just the tip of the iceberg. So you can fuck off with trying to make me feel bad about not seeing father before getting his transplant."

Mrs. Bainbridge said, "It's such a shame that my daughter is a complete bitch."

She then started walking off, heels clacking on the ground still- until she went into the brick house, and slammed the front door behind her.

Joshua spoke.

"Jameson...you didn't have to be that harsh."

"I didn't have to be that harsh? Look, I understand you were the golden child and didn't get the brunt of the abuse, so you might have a conscious when it comes to them, but I dont. And no- it was their job to not be so fucking harsh to me. Not the other way around." Jameson said, and she shook her head, "I need to take a walk."

She started walking off. The house was surrounded by a woodsy area- and she started walking to it. I immediately followed her.

"Jameson. Can I come with you?" I asked her.
