Kayla's pov :
I'm shaking from fear of what's going to happen. But of course I wouldn't show it. We were currently riding along on a fast train, heading to the unknown location of dauntless corridors. I look up to see a pair of curious ocean blue eyes staring at me from across the train, belonging to a small blonde girl that seemed to be lost in thought.I look away and stare out the window the wind whipping through my hair. A voice sounds from behind my view, "it's beautiful isn't it? The city." She says as loud as she could over the roaring wind. Her blonde waves whip around her small frame and I couldn't help but argue back, "it's ruined." I look back out and felt a few tears prickling my eyes.
"Ruined, damaged. It still has beauty. And it can always be fixed." She whispers. "I guess," I say with more confidence. She seems like a wise, caring person. Maybe I should let her in..? Maybe it'd be good to finally have someone. "I'm sorry if I sound needy. I just noticed you from amity and I sorta need a familiar face right now." She mutters. I smile and say "I'm Kayla." We exchange names. Suddenly a dauntless cries out "get ready to jump!!!"
"What do they mean jump?" I cry out, jumping up from my seat beside the door. "I have a feeling we're about to find out.." She says, making my stomach drop. A bunch of people start jumping out of the train, one by one. And Aimee motions for me to follow, as she springs out of the moving train onto the rooftop of a building, where everybody seemed to be landing.
I held my breath looking at the jump, I can't make it. A boy with curly hair, fixed into a bandana, and a eyebrow piercing, sees my hesitation and yells "don't be afraid! I'll help you!" With those trusting words he lifts me off the ground into his strong arms and leaps off the train. Just in time before the building sidewalk ends. I made it. Because of him.
I hop off from the gravel on the sidewalk and mutter a thanks as he helps dust off the dirt. I then walk towards the rest of the group to see what was going on. Everyone seemed to be standing by a ledge of the building, staring downwards. "What's going on?" I whisper to Aimee. "The instructors making one of us jump off the
Ledge." She says. "You've got to be joking" a boy with green hair and a septum piercing says.Suddenly Aimee steps forward. Shuffling to the edge. A bunch of catcalls were let out from others as she stepped up to the ledge. What was going on? The boy that saved me looked up and yelled "do a flip!" with laughter in his voice. Obviously trying to get to Aimee. The instructor called out to Aimee "any day now, initiate" obviously wanting her to hurry up and plummet to her death. Aimee takes one last look at me and and the rest of the group takes a deep breath and takes a leap off the building. I wish I was that fearless. She obviously belonged here.
No screams follow, no noises. All I do is stare at the blank spot where Aimee once stood. I felt tears well up in my eyes, threatening to fall.
