~THEN~
"These are John and Dean Winchester. Friends of mine." John just looked at Riley with a sceptical look as Dean shook her hand. "I'm Dean. How about a beer?" "Dean, she is 16, she can't be drinking." Riley was sure Bobby wouldn't mind, but it was different with her. She was his daughter, wether by blood or not. "I'm just going to have a coke. Dean can have his pint of beer."
"So, how long have you known the Winchesters?" Riley sat down with Bobby at the table in the dining room and ate her pie with great pleasure. "For years." "Why am I just meeting them now?" "They're both hunters, Riley. It's dangerous to be friends with either of them." "Bobby, I've been on the hunt for almost my whole life. Why not with these two?" Bobby sighed. "It's not safe."~Now~
"My god, Ri, what happened?" By the time we got to my flat, which I share with Derek, all the emotions had finally burst out of me. Tom is dead. He was killed because of me. Derek hugs me tightly and looks at Dean in confusion. "I'm Dean. I was there when..." "Tom's dead, Derek."
After I tell Derek everything, he gets up and grabs a bottle of whiskey from the cupboard. "Demons... Ghosts... All that really exists?" Dean nods. Derek pours the whiskey into three glasses and hands them over to us. I drink it all at once. "And you knew this?" "Yep. I just had no idea that demons would be after me. What makes me so special?" "I'd like to know that, too." Dean looks at me suspiciously. "I don't know what's going on, Dean, I swear."
„Maybe we should call John and Bobby. I'm sure they'll know what to do." Dean immediately shakes his head. "Dad's out hunting himself. And Bobby would just worry." "He should be, too, if his daughter's being hunted by demons." Derek is furious. I sigh, but nod. "Dean's right. But Bobby needs to know Dean. I don't want to keep this from him." "You're coming with me. I can protect you." Dean looks at me urgently. Taking a deep breath, I nod. "I think you're right."
„Wait a minute, what? You're just going with some stranger?" Derek is really furious. I can understand him, but I don't want to stay here. I can't get Tom's dead body out of my mind. "Dean is no stranger to me, Derek. I've known him for years." Derek sighs. "And here I was thinking I knew my best friend."
„Now get over it, okay? This is all confusing, yes, but you can't blame Riley for not telling you about me." Derek laughs and looks at Dean angrily. "None of this makes any sense. Vampires, demons, ghosts. What a bunch of shit." "A minute ago you believed us." Tears well up in my eyes again, but I try to ignore the knot in my throat. "Yes, but now you just want to leave. What about me? Or Julia?" "We're going to Bobby's for now. You can come with me if you want. Then I'll explain everything to you in peace." Derek takes a deep breathe, but when he sees my tears, he nods. "Okay."The ride to Bobby's is quiet. No one says a word, Dean just glances in the rearview mirror from time to time, where I sit in the back. I stare out the window and try to hold back the tears. Every time I close my eyes, I see Tom. Then the demon holding Tom's heart. Derek looks back at me. "Ri, I'm sorry for what I said. I'm here for you, okay?" I just nod, unable to say anything.
Bobby sees immediately that something is wrong with me. Wordlessly, he takes me in his arms and leads me inside. "What happened?" He look at Dean, barely acknowledging Derek. "Demon. It killed her boyfriend." Bobby seems a little shocked, but he squeezes my hand. "I don't know what's going on, Bobby. The demon came for me. Why?"
Bobby has no answer to this question either. I hadn't hoped for one, after all, he doesn't know much about my ancestry and my past life. Derek is talking to Bobby when Dean approaches me. "Are you okay?" I sigh. "Ask me again tomorrow." He grins slightly and nods. "Mind if I sit down?" He points to the seat next to me on the couch. "Sure."
It's weird. No matter how sad and angry I am, Dean always manages to calm me down. "Demons aren't really a common thing for you, huh?" Dean shakes his head. "Ghosts, vampires... That's more my specialty." I nod and sigh. "How's Sam? And John?" Sam is Dean's brother, whom I met a few years ago when John and Dean came visiting. I know how much Sam means to Dean. "Good. Sam barely answers the phone." Now it's Dean's turn to sigh. "He doesn't even know what he's missing." I smile, which brings a smile to Dean's face, too. After an eternity, John finally comes into the house. "A demon attacked you?" He looks right at me. "More like my boyfriend. My now dead boyfriend." John doesn't look shocked. "What did the demon want?" I shrug. "I really don't know, John." He nods, unhappy. "Then we better figure it out fast."
„Demons don't usually attack just like that. You must have some connection with him. He knew your name." "John, you know she doesn't know much about her background either. Julia and Bradon weren't exactly model parents." Bobby is still mad at my adoptive parents. He knows what they were like and he knows what they did to me. He's the only one. "Then it has something to do with her birth parents. I'll see what I can find out. Dean." Dean stands up immediately, which makes me sigh. He always does what his father wants. "See you around, Riley. Take care."
"Okay, it's best if you go to sleep now, Riley. We'll find out more tomorrow, I'm sure." Bobby smiles at me. "Derek, you can sleep in the guest room." Derek nods, squeezes my hand briefly and follows Bobby. Sighing, I stand up. I don't want to sleep. Surely sleep will only be haunted with nightmares.
As expected, I am still awake several hours later. I don't want to close my eyes. Sighing, I get up, put on a jacket and leave Bobby's house. Everything is quite. I breathe in the fresh, cold air. My head clears. "You shouldn't be out here on your own." I didn't see Dean's Impala when I left the house, but there it is, Dean standing right in front of it. "What are you doing here?" "I didn't want you to be alone."
