"Can you believe we're actually two years together?" Tom asks as he takes my hand. I smile, even when I don't feel a thing from his touch. "It's crazy. I always thought I would end up alone." He laughs at that but I'm more than serious. I never thought I got to love and I think I'm right. Even when I told Tom I loved him, I never really felt it. I lied to myself, to him, to everyone around us. "So, what do you wanna do today? For our special day?" "Depends. I need to go to the university to study some things. Maybe after that we can go out to lunch?" Tom nods happily while I try to act like I'm happy too.

The study session is over and I don't think I want to go out of here. Tom is waiting outside, I know that, but something in me is telling me that I should just leave. "Everything good?" Derek, my best friend in the whole wide world, asks. "Yeah... I mean... No. I don't think so." "What's up?" I breathe in deeply, before I just rip of the bandage. "I don't love Tom anymore."
Derek caughs in shock. "What do you mean by that?" I shrug my shoulders. "I really tried, Der... But I just... I don't feel anything. It's like someone took my feelings and threw them into a lake." Derek furrows his brows. "Maybe you two just need a weekend away with each other. Doing romantic things, you know." "No. I don't think so. I need to tell him. It's not fair to use him like that. My desicion is final." My heart aches a little with the thought of losing Tom, but it's better this way.

I go out of school much later than I intended but I wanted to dread the moment with Tom as long as possible. He stands outside of my University and I'm sick of nerves. He's smiling at me like he sees the stars. "Are you ready to have a wonderful lunch date with me?" I nod, smiling a little. But before we can walk to the cafe someone's stopping us. "Hi. Can I talk to you for a second?"
A young man with dark blonde hair and green eyes looks at me and smiles slightly. "Um, excuse me?! She has a boyfriend." I lay a hand on Toms shoulder and nod at the man. "Okay." "What? You'll go with a foreign man?" "It's okay Tom. It'll just take a moment."
„What the hell is wrong with you Dean?" The moment I saw him outside the university I knew it was him. Dean Winchester is John Winchesters son who's good friends with Bobby, the man who took me in after my foster parents died. "You're in danger, Riley." "What do you mean, I'm in danger?" "There's something after you. I saw it outside, watching you." I sigh. Of course it's not just a friendly visit. That's the thing. Dean Winchester is not just a random man. He's a hunter.

"Listen, you can't go out with your cute little boyfriend out there, okay? We have to find that thing." I sigh but nod. "Okay. I'll call Tom and tell him we delay this." Dean nods. "Tom... What a average name." I shoot him a sour look. "Be nice, Dean." "Riley, where are you? You said just a moment and that was 20 minutes ago." "I'm so sorry Tom, but we have to delay the date. I have to do something very important." He sighs. "No way. We planned this whole thing for three weeks, we'll go." Rolling my eyes I look to Dean who smirks slightly. "I'm coming in and you tell me yourself." Tom hangs up and I sigh. "He's coming."
„What the hell are you doing in here?" Tom stands in the middle of the room while Dean and I sprinkle salt on windows an the door. "We don't have much time to explain." He huffs and sits on a chair. "Who is this guy anyway?" Tom points to Dean. "I'm Dean. You don't have to know more." I take a deep breath. "It's all a long story and we don't have time for that, okay? Either you stay here and be quiet or you go."
„Are you sure there was something?" Tom looks horrified and confused at the same time. "Something? What do you mean, something?" "Positive. I hunt these things for years now. It's outside. Believe me." I nod. My heart's pounding in my chest like a wildfire. I like hunting but I wanted to give it up. Ever since I was five I did no other thing than hunt monsters. I now just do it occasinally with Bobby. There's a knock on the door. I pray that it's just a student. Dean walks to the door and makes sure the salt is where it should be. He nods. "What the fuck is going on here?" Tom stands up and looks at the both of us. "Salt at doors? What is it?" "Tom please stay down. We have to be careful." "No, Riley, I want to know what the hell is wrong in here!" He's walking around the room like a mad man. Before I can answer him, the door is broken open and a student with black eyes enters the room. "What the fuck is that?"

Dean gets ready to shoot this thing, which is a demon. I mean, I think so. "I've waited so long for this moment." Shocked, I stare at the demon. "Riley Singer... Finally." Before he can reach me, Tom throws himself in front of me. "Leave her alone!"
The demon just grins, "A human who thinks he can stop me." I look at Dean, who shoots at the demon but nothing happens. I know we have to perform an exorcism, but I don't remember the words. Why can't I remember it? Taking a deep breath, I reach for Toms arm. "Tom, please, run as fast as you can." "What, no! Whatever this is, it's not going to get you!" Before I can answer, the demon reaches for Tom, ramming his hand into his chest and ripping out his heart.
Screams are the first thing I hear as my senses return. Tom is lying in front of me in a pool of blood. In front of me is the demon, who's grinning at me sickly, still holding Tom's heart. Only now do I realise that those are my screams. Dean shoots again and this time, black smoke comes out of the student. The demon is gone.

My heart is pounding wildly in my chest. Everything around me is spinning, while all I can see is Tom's body. He threw himself in front of me, protecting me. I could never really love him, but he gave his life for me. A sob escapes me. My ears perk up. "Riley?" A voice reaches my ear, Dean's. I look at him, but before I can answer, everything goes black.
When I finally wake up, my head is throbbing. At first I don't feel anything. I look around me and realise that I am sitting in Dean's Impala. "Dean?" He glaces at me in the rear mirror. "You're awake, thank God." "Where are we going?" "We're going to your place. That's where you explain why a demon knows your name and wants you."
