~THEN~

Riley's whole body trembled when she saw Julia's body in front of her. The vampires must have followed her scent, otherwise they would never have found her. Sarah stood in the doorway, crying and screaming. Despite the fact that she had never felt a part of this family, she felt sorry for the 8 year old girl. She had never been raised to be a hunter, she hardly knew anything. And now she had watched a vampire murder her mother before her adopted sister chopped off his head. "Sarah?" Bradon called as he walked through the door. He stopped when he saw all the blood, the bodies on the floor. His eyes fell on Riley. "What did you do?" Riley's eyes darted to him. "What?" "Julia! What did you do?" Riley couldn't help it, she laughed bitterly. "You were careless. The vampire picked up your scent. He killed her." She pointed at the creature's body. "He almost killed Sarah too, but I got there in time." "In time?" Bradon's face flushed with anger. "My wife is dead!" Despite the shouting, Riley could see the grief in his eyes. "You fucking bitch. You knew he'd come for her! You waited! You wanted her to die!" Riley took a deep breath before looking him straight in the eye. "If I wanted her dead, I would have killed her myself." With those words, she turned to leave the room, but Bradon grabbed her wrist and spun her painfully around to face him. "You bitch." "Let me go," she said calmly. "I should have killed you when you were a baby." Riley nodded emotionlessly. "You should have." She kicked him between the legs and he fell to his knees in pain. "Sarah, go outside." „But..." "Go on!" Riley shouted. The little girl ran outside, Bradon looking at her with a slight smirk. "What are you up to?" "You have humiliated me for years, made me feel worthless. I'm tired of being blamed for your stupidity." She punched him hard in the nose, which immediately began to bleed. "I think it's only fair that you both see the end of yourselves." Bradon looked at her anxiously. "What about Sarah?" "She'll go to a family that loves her, I'm sure." Riley pulled the gun from her trousers. "But you, you don't deserve any more love. Goodbye, Bradon." All that could be heard was a gunshot, then the night was silent again.

~NOW~

Riley startled awake. She hadn't dreamed about Bradon in ages, at least not about that day. She rubbed her eyes and looked around. They were at a gas station, Sam and Dean in the front seat. The sun was shining and it looked like it was going to be a warm day. Riley sat up and stretched a little. "Morning, guys." Dean turned to her with a grin. "Good morning sunshine." "Good morning Ri," Sam murmured from the passenger seat. Dean turned back to the front. "All right. I figure we hit Tucumcari by lunch, then head south, then Bisbee by midnight." Sam stared at his cell phone, not seeming to pay any attention to Dean. Dean glanced at the phone before saying, "Sam's wearing women's underwear." "I was listening, I'm just busy." "Doing what?" Riley asked, leaning forward. "Reading emails," Sam said. Dean got out of the car. "E-mails from who?" he asked, leaning against the car again. "From my friends at Stanford." Dean went around the car to get gas. "You're kidding. You still keep in touch with your college buddies?" "Why not?" "Well... What exactly do you tell them?" Dean stood at the passenger side window. "You know? About where you've been, what you've done." He leaned against the car, looking at Sam. "'I tell them I'm on a road trip with my big brother and his girlfriend," Sam grinned. Riley immediately felt the warmth in her face and quickly looked down at her cell phone. "I'm telling them I needed some time off after Jess." "Oh, so you're lying to them." "No. I just don't tell them everything." "It's called lying, Sammy," Riley said from the back seat, still staring at her phone. "I get it. Telling them the truth is way worse," Dean interjected. "So, what am I supposed to do? Just cut everyone out of my life?" Dean shrugged, then looked at Riley. "What about you? Are you still in touch with your college friends?" Riley shook her head.  "I talk to Derek on the phone from time to time, but that's probably more because he knows what I'm doing." "You two are pretty antisocial, you know that?" asked Sam, turning back to his cell phone. "Whatever you say."
