Planning Revenge

Ashton was a saint. After returning with Alexa he made breakfast because lord knows I was not about to touch a pan to make anything and he refused to let me eat a pop tart when we had actual food he could cook. But as for revenge it is best served when least expected and the boys next door wouldn't think twice about retaliation this soon, so while everyone ate I explained the plan.

"Tonight, we have a bonfire, I need all of the boys out of that house. It's fine if it's small I just need them out for ten minutes max. Dani and I will sneak over to their house, unscrew all the shower heads and put the Kool-Aid in them. When the boys try to shower they'll be automatically dyed."

"Okay so how does the glue come into play?" Roriee asked.

"Well my young grasshopper, they'll need to grab something to try and get the dye off. So, we put the glue on all the cabinets, keeping them shut, and since they like polaroid's so much, I'll need to steal theirs. Just for a minute. Once my plan gets rolling it's going to go so fast that we've got to be ready."

"This may be a dumb question, but why do we need the polaroid?"

"Dani, you're right, that was a dumb question, but I'll answer it anyways. My cousins left a few fireworks from their party they had here a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to set them off when they get out of the shower, forcing them to run outside, thus camera. Does it make sense?"

"My God woman. You are diabolic." Calum said waltzing into the room.

"Only to those who piss me off." I answered with a sly smile and a wink while grabbing another piece of toast.

We had hours to kill before the bonfire and I was in need of a nap. Ashton, Mikey, and Izzy ran to the store to get our materials and Calum and Alexa went down to the dock to look at the other boats. I laid across my bed sleep evading me and only causing more frustration. I tossed and turned and let out an exasperated sigh. It was pointless.

"Problems?"

"I can't fall asleep and it's frustrating." I answered, rolling over to see Luke standing in the doorway, his right shoulder propped against it and his hands in his pockets.

"Well, when I can't sleep, I write songs."

"What do you write about in your songs?" I asked, sliding over and patting the spot next to me. He hesitated like he knew he shouldn't do something and he started to look like he was going to follow that instinct so I added, "it's fine, you can sit down, I don't bite. Hard."

A smile crossed his face taking in my joke. He pushed off the door frame and sat down next to me, back against the head board and legs on top of the blankets. "Well, I write what I feel. It just depends on the mood I am in and what's going on in my life at that moment."

"That's cool. So not to intrude or anything but why are you guys really here. Like in my lake house with James?"

"Um, you see, we have a deadline coming up and we need four more songs and we just weren't getting the progress in the studio, so James mentioned to his dad that there was a lake house we could go to in order to clear our heads and stop taking everything so serious. Kinda like a way to rejuice and learn how to be teenagers again, get inspiration almost."

"And have you found any? Inspiration?"

"I think I have, it's just capitalizing at the right moment. It's like coaxing a deer to come feed from your hand. You've gotta gain the deer's trust, letting it come to you, not rushing to force it into something it doesn't want to be in."

"That was deep. You've got a knack for storytelling." I paused, eyes drifting close, "Luke."

"Yeah?"

"Can I ask you something else?"

"Sure, anything."

"Last night, why did you have Calum carry me home?" He slid down a little farther allowing my head to rest on his shoulder allowing his arms to wrap around me.

"Because I didn't know if you wanted me to. I cut you off when you wanted another drink and then I guess asked a question that struck a nerve even though you did give me a serious laugh. You pack a big punch inside such a tiny body" he paused "and I guess because you're my little deer. I need to gain your trust and if I carried you home in the state you were in, if you had asked me to stay I might have even against my better judgment."

"You could've you know. Stayed I mean."

"In all honesty I avoided your room. I even made Mikey walk with me passed your room to keep me from going in and he threw a fit when he had to leave Izzy's side."

"Mikey really likes Iz, huh?"

"Yeah, he does, and I'm pretty sure she likes him too which is really weird because I would have never picked her for a girl he would go after."

"I understand because it goes the same way for Izzy. No offense to Mikey, by the way, it's just I always pictured her with some pre-law guy from Vanderbilt, but I guess life is full of surprises."

He let out a slight laugh, his voice gaining that deep tone when boys are about to fall asleep and their voice loses its edge and everything becomes soft. "Bridget, you should rest now, we've got a long night ahead of us."

My eyes were completely closed at this point and I wasn't about to let this moment pass. "Hey Luke."

"Yeah?" He replied softly.

"Promise you won't leave me?"

"Promise."
