Hellooooooo! Here's the first update in god only knows how long. I had fun writing this, and I forgot how much I adore Eleanor and Charlie. Please enjoy, next update will be along soon <3
Within the weeks that passed, life appeared to get back to some form of normality. Or... Whatever could be construed as normal for a family who'd been reunited with their supposedly dead relative, at least. The Burrow was once again a-bustle with activity, something that hadn't been experienced in the years following the war. She wasn't sure that it was even possible, but the home felt even more welcoming now that everybody had their missing piece back.
There was of course an underlying sourness due to the fact that, still, there had been no progress on finding out what had actually happened to Fred. In all honesty, he wanted to leave it and be thankful that he was home, but the family needed the closure. They needed to know what had caused their Freddie to be taken from them for those years.
Eleanor was thrilled to hear that George was finally opening up to Fred, and that they had even spent some time in the shop together. Charlie told her with glee that they'd been discussing a new product that had been in the early development stages before the war. She'd popped in and visited a couple of times and Fred was exactly how he'd been described by those who love him. She adored him instantly and he was gleeful to be able to tease his big brother, finally, for being such a sap for a woman.
"I can't believe you're actually leaving us tomorrow," Darcie pouted at Finn as he wiped down the counter.
He'd been such a huge help to Eleanor and Darcie for the whole month as he'd promised, but the time had finally come for him to return home to his own business. Eleanor felt dreadfully sad about it, but equally incredibly thankful for the support he'd shown in such a short space of time.
"I honestly don't know what we'd have done without you," Eleanor told Finn earnestly.
He smiled back at her, reaching out to ruffle her hair just like he did with Darcie.
"I've had a blast here with you. Even you as well, you little shit," he laughed as he threw a dirty rag at Darcie's head. "I'll be back I'm sure though."
"I think this means that we're actually going to have to hire somebody, though. Don't you think?" Eleanor asked Darcie. They were only getting busier by the day, and it wasn't fair that Darcie hold down the fort in the shop whilst Eleanor was coming up with recipes.
"I think it's probably time to consider it, yeah," Darcie nodded. "Do you need any help advertising or anything?".
"Merlin, yes," Eleanor laughed. "I honestly wouldn't know where to start."
"Lover boy, 12 o'clock," Darcie coughed rather indiscreetly, gesturing with her head towards the door behind Eleanor.
Eleanor felt her stomach jolt as she turned around. Sure enough, Charlie had somehow snuck in undetected and was standing by the door with a soft smile on his face.
"Sorry I thought you'd be finished by now," he explained, slightly abashed. "I can come back?"
"Don't be silly! We were just leaving, weren't we, Finny?" Darcie said.
"Absolutely." Clearly, he got the hint from the way that Darcie was widening her eyes and pushing him towards the door.
"See you tomorrow, hun!".
Before Eleanor could blink, Darcie and Finn left the shop, leaving her and Charlie standing in front of each other. It didn't take him long to close the distance between them and wrap his arms around her. She all but melted into his embrace, weaving her own arms around his broad frame.
