One day I want a guy who will remake the world for me.
Open his fist to the sky and say I filled his hands with something.
Remind me I was always special to begin with.
Not someone who reversed themselves like a car shift so he would notice me.
One day a guy will lean out the window of a car and smile at me because he can
Because I'm me,
He's him,
And love sounds like a pretty fantastic idea
but from someone else's imagination.
One day my love will burn in the candles of a date waning into the night,
Hide in the dollar bills of a long life spent on what's right.
We will walk down stairs side by side because that's how love works.
One person on the right
One on the left
And all sorts of things in between.
So I'll forget
That once everything was complicated
But in those moments it will be entirely surreal.
Because in pictures we feel ourselves fly
In old flowers we see our hearts die.
But side by side
The world will have a happier way to sigh.
Love can do that to us.
Maybe one day
It will do that
to me.
