"Are you two back together again?" Jessie asked as we walked out of the diner. "Because if you aren't, and we have to split up the children, I'm not going with Zach."

I rolled my eyes. "Did you get supplies?"

Jessie nodded. "Yeah, Sophie and Paige are putting it in the trunk." She started walking with us. "Oh, and Paige wanted to talk to you, Drew." She grabbed my arm and stopped. Wyatt looked at us, also stopping. "It's good, Wyatt, I just need to chat with Drew." Wyatt looked at her for a moment then nodded. I watched him walk away then turned to Jessie. "Nobody is keeping you here, Jessie."

She sighed. "You know that isn't true. I'm not going to leave you or Wyatt."

I sighed. I always forget that Jessie is younger than me, sure only by a year, but she's still younger.

"Look, Jessie," I took her hands in mine and she gave me a small smile, "I would never let anything happen to you, okay. Never. And neither would Wyatt." I looked into her green eyes.

She shot her eyes to her shoes. "Sometimes, you can't control things like that." And without another word, she walked away from me.

"Jessie," I tried, but she kept walking.

What did I drag her into?
