Mia and Wyatt came back with five large pizzas. I was going to tell Wyatt what was going on right after he walked in, but he lifted his hand and told me that whatever it was, it could wait.
I thought that I would be sick of pizza, but after not eating for a whole day, greasy pizza tasted like heaven. Sadly the pizza couldn't last forever and we finished all five of them. It was time to face the music.
I caught Wyatt and Mia up and for some reason, Wyatt didn't seem surprised when I told him about Sophie's secret. It was as if he knew about it already.
"You're like my sister?" Mia asked, her eyes skeptical.
"Kind of," Sophie said. "I have visions, but they're not the same."
"So she's going to tap into one of the twin's minds?" Wyatt asked. I nodded. "Does she even know how to do that?"
"I did it to Shaggy when he was holding Jamie," Sophie told him.
"Yeah, but you didn't know you were doing it." He seemed doubtful.
Sophie nodded. "I think I can do it." Her blue eyes were filled with determination and confidence. "We need to catch these guys. We need to stop them before they take another innocent Visioner, and I know I can do this, if it means to finally save someone."
"What if you can only do it if you're scared. Like, if it's only a reflex. Your mind working overtime," Jessie argued.
"They're after me. I'm next. If that isn't enough, well then I guess we're screwed." Sophie grabbed one of the chairs that was under the small table the empty pizza boxes were resting on and she sat down.
"You'd be screwed," Jessie mumbled.
"So what do you need us to do?" I asked wanting to get everything along in case the murderers were already on their way.
"Just have a bottle of water for me when I wake up." She stood up and walked to the bed. "Oh, and make sure nobody comes in and kills me."
I smiled. "Duly noted."
She tried to smile back, but I could see the worry in her eyes. Was she worried about her life being in danger? Or was she worried she wouldn't be able to tune into one of the twins and save the rest of us as well as herself?
Sophie laid herself onto the bed and took a deep breath.
I walked to the bed and grabbed her hand. She turned her head to me and stared at me with her shadowy seas. I squeezed her hand. "You can do this, Sophie. I'll be right here when you wake up, I promise."
She nodded and took another deep breath. She didn't seem as determined as she was before, but she closed her eyes and squeezed my hand until it suddenly went limp and I knew that she had done it.
She was tuned in.
