The petrichor, something that is always taken for granted. When the rain washes away the everlasting frost of the winter. Where the sun barely shines through the haze of the cloudy sky. Would you care to stop and ponder what follows? It's spring, where spring brings new opportunities. After weeks of darkness and shadows the rain washes it away. Out of what's left of the frost sprouts one lotus, and spring comes again.

Those who inquire about the world around them stop and dance alongside the petrichor. Those who do will see the hidden lotus among the snow.

...

"Look the rain finally stopped." The girls looked up from the book they were inspecting to look out the window.

"Well, that's a relief. I would be terrified to walk down the first-year hallway."

"What do you mean? Why would you be scared?"

"Oh, you didn't hear about the spirit in the 1-A hallway?"

"No!"

"Well apparently from rumor, two years ago a former U.A. student died in her first year here. Nobody knows why and the third years are supposedly the last to know about her and they refuse to talk about the whole subject in general. Anyways, I guess she's now bound to the closet down that hall, and if you know three times while you chant fulfillment she will grant you wishes until you're heart is full!"

"Are you serious? Let's go check it out then!" The girl tried to lift her friend off of her seat and through the doors of the library.

"Are you kidding? What if it's an old hag or worse a witch?! I'm crazy to follow you most of the time, but this is where I draw the line."

SQUEAK

The girls turned at the sudden noise. A chair was left disheveled compared to the three others at the table, and an open book lay on the table. The creak of the library door filled the silence of the almost deserted library, and all the girls could see was a glimpse of fading red and white hair as the door closed shut.

"I wonder what that was about."  They stalked over to the table that the figure was just sitting at. Their eyes widened at the sight. A picture of their now seniors two years prior.

...

Two Years Earlier

Tired eyes looked out the window. The cherry trees are in blossom. The snow has finally melted away from the ground from the previous winter. The breeze occasionally gusts through the window, the soft ruffles of their hair barely heard.

"Hitoshi, it's spring again. It's officially been over a year and we still can't figure out a way around it." Her voice was so soft it was barely over a whisper.

"Please y/n let's just give it a little more time and I swear to you everything will be fine." The boy faces in front of the girl, blocking her view of the outside world. He bends down in a squat so their faces are now parallel towards each other. He grabs her hands and caresses them with his own, being careful to handle the various tubes and wires attached to her. "I beg you to please just hold out a little bit longer. I can feel that we're making progress."

"Alright Hitoshi, I'll give you a year. Then you have to promise me. No more tests, no more hospitals, no more pain, and I can finally let go."

"This last year, I promise."

"You have to also promise me that you won't get mad at me for completing the tasks."

"Y/n you know it's dangerous I can't let you do that!"

"And poking and prodding me with needles isn't?" The boy stayed silent. "You have to make this compromise with me. Do you promise?"

"I extra promise." He leans his lips towards her head and with barely a touch the warmth faded and left.

KNOCK KNOCK

"I'm sorry to interrupt but y/n you're being requested." A female voice filled the barren room.

"I said no more tests." She turned her head from the boy in front of her to the door of her hospital suite, it was Dr. Fujihara. She's been y/n's family doctor and with the most experience handling this unique circumstance, she was requested to join the hospital staff at the Jaku General Hospital.

"It's some of the staff from the U.A. department. They know it's unexpected but they would like to speak with you urgently. As for you Hitoshi, visiting hours are over now and I don't want you to get your third referral of this month."

"Tell them I'll be right down."

"Thank you, ma'am, I'll be gone in just a moment." Dr. Fujihara gave a bow and then left swiftly to alert the awaited guests. "What do you think they're here for? I mean you did get accepted into U.A. but you backed out. Do you think it's because they know of your circumstance?"

"We shall see. I'll see you later Hitoshi." She walked, with her IV pouch slowly rolling behind, out of her hospital room without waiting for the boy and walked toward the front desk of her floor.

"I'm sorry to bother you Nurse Ayame, but can you please point to what room Dr. Fujihara has led my guests to."

"Second door down that hall to the left."

"Thank you so much! Sorry for bothering you for the trouble."

"Anytime and you're not a bother at all." She smiled as y/n walked towards the west wing hallway the second door to the left. She reached in front of the door and took a deep breath.

KNOCK KNOCK

The door opened and revealed Dr.Fujihara through the threshold of the door.

"Ah, right on time y/n please have a seat." She opened the door wider to reveal two men and a bear sitting down on the couch opposite the two open chairs. She sat down and awkward silence filled the room as the men stared at the girl's appearance. She wasn't as formal as she could've been. With more testing on her earlier that day her hair was disheveled and she was still in her hospital gown.

"Mhmm." The bear cleared his throat and then proceeded to speak, "L/n-"

"Y/n will do."

"Well Y/n I'm the principal Nezu of U.A. And after reviewing your film and statistics I understand that your entrance exam scores are very well off the charts. Although it seems as though you have rejected our invitation to be welcomed into the school. Yes, we did receive your follow-up email about your condition. From our understanding within the confidentiality of the email you probably didn't disclose the entirety of the information necessary."

"With all due respect sir I know there isn-" He raised his paw and stopped the girl and then proceeded to continue with his previous thought.

"As the members of the board of the school we have chosen to accept your application. That means you're welcome to our school regardless of the situation." The girl was appalled at the bear's statement, but she was still skeptical.

"I'm assuming in return for lab results and such."

"No, no such thing." The man sitting to the left of the bear replied he was dressed in all black with dark circles under his eyes just as deep as his clothes. "The government officials have not seen any other relation or guardianship in your paperwork."

"That's because there isn't any." He faltered within his words but ultimately continued.

"They have deemed it fit that the heroes should be entrusted with your guardianship. With you being in the demographic for attending high school you will be attending U.A. If you choose to accept you will be given a dorm within the teacher housing facility as well as an on-call nurse."

"Granted we want to give you the freedom to choose the lifestyle that you want given your circumstance." The skinny man to the bear's right spoke. He looked oddly familiar but she didn't pay that much attention to the finer details of his appearance. "Don't worry about the paperwork with your previous school, we'll start the transferring right away if you accept."

In her mind, the cold clamminess of winter started to melt with the rain. Her thoughts became suddenly so clear. The fogginess in her eyes started to brighten as the sun showered in. Just outside the window to her left the first bud of a lotus flower started to bloom.
