Cherry: Taylor, let's go. What are you waiting for?

If it were me, I wouldn't even bother attending this.

Wasting my Sunday with these people isn't on top of my list of priorities.

Taylor: I'll follow, Ma.

Good thing allowed ang plus one. To make it bearable —at least— and to rub it in their faces a bit.

Cherry: Your Ah-ma is there na. Mamaya kung ano na naman sabihin niya if she's upstairs waiting for too long.

There's my mother being the manic control freak she is. I wonder how that party coordinator she hired is surviving.

Taylor: I'll follow nga, Ma. 3:00 PM pa naman mag-start.

How many times do I have to repeat myself? People are going to be late anyway?

Cherry: Bahala ka! No one in this family ever listens to instructions anyway!

Same line different family thing.

Cherry: Hello! Mrs. Chua here. Any updates there?

Finally! Saved by a phone call. Kung sino
man siya, she needs to be nominated for sainthood.

Goz: I'm here. Sorry —may bisita sa Hoop Crush na sponsor— but I made it on time, di ba?

Annndddd he's here. Someone up there is still looking after me.

Taylor: You most certainly did.

And he wore the pink shirt I told him to wear. He looks so good in it lalo na with this afternoon light streaming in.

Goz: Good afternoon po, Ma'am.

Hindi pa pala umakyat ang mother ko?

Cherry: Taylor, seryoso kayo? You really invited him?

Well that confirms it.

Taylor: You said I could invite people, right?

Cherry: It's your sister's engagement party! What the hell were you thinking?

Louder pa. Parang hindi pa yata narinig ng buong polo club.

Goz: Tee, maybe I should go na lang.

I turn to the face the owner of the one voice that keeps me sane.

Taylor: Please don't.

Goz: I know naman when I'm not welcome—

Cherry: Good naman that you're aware, hijo. I do not intend to be rude pero siguro much better if you did not—

Taylor: Ma naman!

Back story lang. My mother found out about Goz and me a little over a year ago. How you might ask? It was in Binondo of all places when we decided to do a food crawl with the guys and surprise my mother and aunts were there.

Typical of what you might expect from families like mine, I heard the following words from my mother: malas, abnormal, passing obsession, Sodom & Gomorrah, Christian Change Ministry, psychiatric evaluation, and some more na i never thought makakasama sa vocabulary ko.

"Cherry! Taylor! Dito ba kayo mag-welcome ng guests?"

That voice.

This won't turn out to be so bad pala.
