Intense Symptoms

I woke up to the doctor standing over my bed, calling my name. I pulled the covers over my head, not wanting him to see me.

"Blimey, Y/n, it's passed midday."

Knowing I won't be able to fall back asleep now, I peeped out of the covers to stare at his shoes.

"Okay?" I say, closing my eyes again in hopes he'd leave me alone.

"Just wanted to make sure you were still breathing. When you're ready." His words were always so strong and passionate, too bad I'm not matching that.

He walked out of my room, thankfully, and closed the door behind him. I thought I'd may as-well get up and get ready for the rest of the day. To be honest, I wasn't feeling it. I didn't want to do anything today. I wasn't going to force myself either; I've had a terrible night's sleep.

I stand up, aiming to use the shower in my en-suite bathroom, however the room started shifting. Recognising what this was, I sat back down. And then laid back down. Flat on my back. And sighed.

About an hour had passed and the doctor was back at my door, knocking and calling my name once again.

"What?" I ask loudly, my eyes closed as I laid as flat as possible on my bed.

"Are you okay? Can I come in?"

I decided to try and not let my building fury spill over and ruin his day.

"Yeah." I reply, to both questions.

"You've been in here a long time- you're still not dressed? Goodness, something must be wrong." He joked as he stood at my bedroom door. He was aware of how much I liked to dress up for the day- makeup, hair, outfits, accessories. He rather admired how much effort I put into getting ready for our adventures.

"I'm just tired, I'm going to have a shower and then I'll get ready." I say, still in my position before opening my eyes to look at the doctor.

"Why? Were you planning on something specific for today or?"

"No no, nothing specific. Just the old TARDIS' choice as per usual. You're just usually out by now, I forgot how quiet it can be without you blabbering away."

He smirked at his little light hearted joke. But I just hummed in reply.

He noticed my lack of response and probably gave up trying. He told me that he would leave me to shower, and left. I guess it was time I get a move on anyway, I hate wasting a day.

I sat up very slowly, ignoring the fact that I felt very off, and very weak. I'll be fine once I have a nice, cool shower. But as soon as I got in, add the steam warmed up the bathroom, those feelings started to heighten, and soon I was clutching the sink for dear life.

Breathe in through the nose and out of the mouth.

I told myself to keep breathing as I had my head down, desperate for more blood to rush to it. But I knew that it was no use, and the weakness overtook my body, causing my hands to slip and my body to hit the ground.

I fell onto my shoulder, then turned over onto my back in agony.

I guess the suddenness of the fall caused my heart to race, which was helping the blood flow to the brain, and just about saved me from passing out.

As I laid there, defeated on the bathroom floor, I heard the sound of footsteps running down the hall, growing louder and louder.

"You alright? I heard a fall?"  The doctor was yet again at the door, but this time I was thankful he was there.

"No." I managed to say. I tried to get back up before he entered, but it was no use.

"What happened?" He queried, kneeling down beside me.

"I don't know, I feel weird. I've felt weird all morning."

"What do you mean by 'weird'?"

"Dizzy, faint," I started, attempting to sit myself up against the wall. "I couldn't sleep last night. I woke up at around four AM feeling like I was about to pass out, then around half passed five I woke up boiling and my heart racing."

"Hmm." The doctor was listening cautiously beside me, before standing up to turn the shower off.

"You haven't had a drink or eaten today?" He asked.

I shook my head gently.

"Can you stand?"

He reached his hand to me, and I took it. Noticing my struggling, he offered his other hand too, and slowly, he guided me back onto my bed before shortly leaving to grab me a snack and some water, and returning as quick as he could.

"Do you think you could make it to the medical bay? I could scan you and see what the problem is." He said, sitting beside me on my bed and handing me a bottle of water and a banana.

After taking a few gulps of the water, I reply to his question.

"It's okay, I think I know what it is."

"And what's that?"

I hesitate. The topic was unnecessarily taboo for whatever reason. I never liked feeding into the taboo-ness and always described myself as a 'say it how it is' person. But I couldn't explain how vulnerable I felt in this moment, a male pair of eyes staring back at me.

"It's just the intense symptoms."

"Symptoms of?"

I gave him a weak smile.

"Girl stuff."

He raised his eyebrows and smiled.

"Oh that!" He exclaimed. "Oh well I'm glad it's that and not you dying or something."

My smile grew. I appreciated how his response wasn't him getting grossed out, you can never quite predict people's reaction these days, or aliens.

"Well if that's the case then this is not an acceptable snack." He stood up, but before he left, he turned on his heels to reference the banana.

"But do eat that, it has a lot of nutrients."

And before I knew it, he was re entering the room with an arm full of chocolate.
