American Soldier
"HELP ME! I'M HIT!"
A pool of blood trails into a small abandoned building. Several men are inside, wounded, with bullet holes in their chests. It's enough to see half of their hearts.
American Medic
"I need backup inside the western orphanage. We have several soldiers shot..."
A medic attempts to reach reinforcements on a radio, but it's no use. It's as if the entire country has went dark.
American Medic
"Where are the horses?"
American Cavalryman
"I'm not sure, we lost them in the Burg."
York, Pennsylvania - World War One
Two Cavalrymen stand alongside an American Medic inside an abandoned orphanage with several wounded soldiers.
American Soldier
"YO- YOU REALLY THINK THAT PIECE OF JUNK WOULD WORK!? HAHAHAHAHAHA!"
A coughing soldier mocks the medic's pathetic attempt to reach reinforcements on the radio.
American Medic
"Look you dying imbecile, I'm trying to prevent you all from dying here."
The medic has to tend to one soldier at a time, as he's the only medic present.
The medic has no choice but to stabilize the men with exposed hearts. The beating, the blood, the half organs trying to escape the body. It's enough to make a man throw up. The medic however, has to pull through. He has to get some of these men stabilized enough so that after the gruesome battle outside is over, they have a chance of making it.
The two Cavalrymen are staying with the medic because they lost their group. Their horses gone, and their weapons out of ammo.
American Cavalryman
"What's your name, son?"
Joey Clyde
"J- Joey Clyde. First-trench Cavalry."
American Cavalryman
"You need to stay alive here, boy. We may be weaponless, but that doesn't mean we can't defend this here station."
American Medic
"Can you two just stay put? I don't need two extra wounded over here."
American Cavalryman
"Oh, so if these foreigners wanna take the orphanage, I'm just supposed to stand here and welcome them!?"
American Medic
"I'm trying my best here! I don't need two more wounded and that's that!"
With how heavy everything seems coming from the outside, the cavalryman and Joey Clyde don't stand a chance against enemy reinforcements.
American Medic
"NO! I lost one."
A soldier dies in the arms of the American medic. It's not long for countless others to pass away too, their organs exposed for the remaining to witness.
American Medic
"I- I- I can't s- save them all..."
Severely Wounded Soldier
"Do- don't fuckin'...Texas...my wife...she needs to know that I die- died...a hero's death."
Two voices can be heard outside the orphanage.
Joey Clyde
"What in god's name? Are those our boys?"
American Cavalryman
"Open the door and find out dumbass."
American Medic
"QUIET!"
The medic proceeds to slowly move towards the door. Upon peaking out window, he spots two German outfits.
American Medic
"Oh no...oh no oh no oh no..."
American Cavalryman
"I told you goddamnit! We shoulda moved out hours ago! But that pointless radio of yours!"
The medic gestures for the cavalryman to shut up as he tries to listen to the talk occurring between the two Germans outside.
German Soldier
"Don't converse in English, my friend."
German Soldier #2
"So ist es einfacher, es sei denn, sie haben Spione in unseren Reihen."
(It's easier that way, unless they have spies in our ranks.)
The medic turns to Joey and the Cavalryman.
American Medic
"I have to close up shop. But it'll kill me leaving these men here to die."
American Cavalryman
"Tell the damn pottymouth over here to go out there and scare them away!"
Joey Clyde
"Me!? No! No no no!"
American Medic
"Then you need to-"
Two shots are fired from outside...and they're close. The medic slowly turns his head to peak outside once again, this time, staring at the two Germans dead on the stone path.
American Medic
"Who..."
Before words come to mind, a man steps beyond the two dead Germans at the orphanage's doorstep. The man heads straight for the front door.
American Medic
"Holy shit!"
The medic takes a few steps back, the cavalryman excited to get his hands dirty once again. Joey has no choice but to ready himself in case defense comes into play.
The door opens dramatically slow, the killer entering the orphanage and removing his concealing hood.
Flynn Lightenhouse
"I'm ordering you men to stand down."
American Medic
"W- who are you?"
Flynn Lightenhouse
"In a way, I'm here to save your sorry asses. In another way..."
Flynn proceeds to shoot both the cavalryman and Joey in the chest, instantly sending both to the floor. Luckily, both are still alive.
American Medic
"NOOO!!! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!?"
Flynn Lightenhouse
"Shut your damn mouth and listen, or else it's you."
American Medic
"I-"
Flynn aims his pistol at the medic's head. The medic, unwillingly, remains silent.
Flynn Lightenhouse
"Good. Now, to explain things in more detail, you're required by two friends of mine. They'll end this pointless battle outside then we'll be off, okay?"
The medic nods, still shaken by Flynn's outburst of shots.
Flynn Lightenhouse
"Those two will be accompanied by my requested reinforcements. They aren't apart of the deal."
American Medic
"Y- yes...yes sir."
