Weeks had passed and Finnick and I were completely healed besides hundreds of small and large scars across our bodies. Effie took her time with SFX makeup to hide the four slashes on my cheek and when she was done it looked like I was never slashed in the first place.
I slid into the beige beech dress that I would be wearing for my wedding tonight and put on jewelry as well.
I had a total of five minutes before the ceremony began and Finnick and I were pacing back and forth in the back room. We couldn't help but be nervous even if we were ready for this.
Finnick did a few hops out of nerves then stepped out of the room. I followed a few minutes later as the music started and I walked to the stands where we would be married.
There were many gasps as no one had seen me in weeks. I wonder what sort of stuff was spreading around about me but it wasn't a good time to have that on my mind.
The ceremony will be short and sweet and then we will have some fun at the celebration and go to bed for the night.
I stood in front of finnick and took his hands holding them tightly as the ceremony began. I knew there were cameras all around us capturing this moment to later stream on television but it didn't feel weird at all. It felt just right.
"Y/n l/n do you take Finnick Odair to be your husband in sickness and in health till death do you part?" They had to leave a few parts out because we were outlaws and no longer had our capitol status or accounts.
"I do." I say with a big smile spread across my face that was making my cheeks sore.
"Finnick Odair do you take y/n l/n to be your wife in sickness and in health till death do you part?" Finnick was smiling just as wide when he agreed to take me as his wife. The hard part was done.
"Then you may kiss the bride!"
Finnick wrapped his hand around my waist and pulled me close to him crashing his lips on mine and embracing me in a warm almost magical kiss.
In true district 4 fashion everyone stood up and cheered then threw flowers in the air as we broke apart and turned to look at them. We didn't know about two thirds of the people in here but it was the people we did know who were cheering the loudest as we walked down the aisle together.
Johanna had climbed onto her chair and was shouting nice things at us which was a change. No wonder she chose to sit in the back aisle seat she only came to heckle at us.
When we reached the back room and finally had some time to ourselves without people cheering or trying to do last minute touch ups on our makeup. I unzipped my dress and slipped into a more comfortable dress that I could wear for the after party.
Right now the guests were eating at the refreshments table and we were going to be brought food so that we could eat in peace. When we go out no one will really come to congratulate us because we aren't leaving. We will see everyone here tomorrow and the day after that and so on until we aren't trapped here anymore. If they wanted to congratulate us in would seem like they were saying goodbye. That's what it was like in district 4. No one ever congratulated one another.
"Your food has arrived!" Johanna announced as she made her way through the door with three plates of food.
"Are you eating with us?" I ask.
"Yeah, I thought you guys could use some company. I know you guys aren't going to do anything back here but I'm just here as a precaution." She answered.
"Well we're just hungry so there's no show." Finnick said as he dove into his plate of food.
It was quiet for the rest of the half hour that we spent eating and then the noise grew louder. Chants began and it seemed like the guests wanted us to come out.
So we did.
Finnick and I walked out hand in hand to the center of the room where the chairs had cleared into a dance floor. Another tradition custom to district 4 was our first dance.
Finnick and I touched palms and elbows and slowly walked in a circle switching sides halfway through the rotation. He took my hand and spun me around as the music picked up and we began dancing around the room with everyone clapping to the beat.
The dancing went on for hours and many other couples joined the dancing. I could see distant cameras panning around the room taking it all in. I didn't want to think about what this was all for because it was Finnick and my moment. But it wasn't. It was all for the propaganda and after this everything would go back to the way it was before. Nothing lasted in panem. Nothing lasted in district 13. Everything is relative and we were bound to die trying since the day our names were drawn for the hunger games.
Festivities carried on through the night and it was the first time for many here where we were allowed out of our rooms past curfew. It unfortunately was a sober occasion but if I'm not mistaken finnick and I will be enjoying the other half of that champagne bottle tonight.
Not in my Twenty-four years of life did I think I would ever have my wedding in a massive underground bunker with a bunch of random people while hiding from the capitol as fugitives. The only thing I was able to imagine at that age was getting married to my closest friend since childhood. Finnick Odair.
My husband.
