Sarang had acted in several dramas so far but it was always in a supporting role. But now, after school 2017's success and her increasing popularity Sarang finally landed a leading role in a drama called While You Were Sleeping.

Sarang was looking forward for the shooting to start. She had read the script and immediately agreed to do the role. When later she was told that the male lead would be Lee Jongsuk, Sarang wasn't able to contain her happiness at all.

She had watched all of his works and she was a big fan of his. To think that he'd be her on screen partner for her first ever lead role was actually insane.

For the first time in her career Sarang had gotten a Bob cut for this drama. Which later went viral as the "Sarang cut" and almost every woman and girl in Korea had that hair cut. You'd walk down a road and spot every woman you'd see, in the same hair cut.

Sarang arrived at the set and instantly noticed how different she was treated now comparatively to when she did other dramas. And something told her that it wasn't just cause she was a main lead this time.

Sarang and the rest of the cast were given two weeks to get to know each other and build up a natural chemistry. In those two weeks, Sarang naturally formed a great bond with the other actors especially Lee Jongsuk and Jung Haein, despite their age gap.

The trio were often spotted playing in the pool or doing other fun activities together. Sarang was seven years younger than Lee Jongsuk and eight years younger than Jung Haein, yet they mingled and chatted like they were all same aged friends.

While You Were Sleeping was a combination of the romance, legal drama and fantasy genres, focusing on the tale of three young adults who have acquired the ability to see the future through their dreams: field reporter Nam Hong-joo (Choi Sarang), rookie prosecutor Jung Jae-chan (Lee Jong-suk), and police officer Han Woo-tak (Jung Hae-in). Some of these dreams show crimes that Jae-chan has to investigate and others show disastrous events that one or more of them will have to endure. Troubled by these dreams, the trio collaborate with each other to prevent their ominous dreams from turning into reality and to defeat their archenemy, the corrupt lawyer Lee Yoo-beom (Lee Sang-yeob).

Sarang had never really done any fantasy genre drama so this was new for her. But she loved every second of shooting it.

BTS members and her 97 liner friends has sent coffee and food trucks to cheer her on for the drama.

As the shooting progressed Sarang amazed everyone with her acting skills. The director and producers praised her saying that she had a natural charm and ability when it came to acting.

While they were shooting the bus scene, Jongsuk laid his head on her shoulder as he had to pretend that he was asleep.
