All she heard when she walked into the building was the clicking of her heels on the floor and the faint sound of power tools. What she was doing in a NASCAR race shop was a surprise to her entire family, and honestly herself as well. Jocelyn shocked her entire family when she told them she had taken a job with a race team. Half way across the country. Joe Gibbs Racing decided to hire a licensed therapist for their employees and Jocelyn Davis was that therapist. Jocelyn walked up to the front desk, waiting for the receptionist to notice her.
"Can I help you?" The lady finally said, looking up at Jocelyn.
"I'm Jocelyn Davis, I have a meeting with Mr. Alpern this morning." The lady looked at her computer.
"I don't see anything on the books for Dave with a Jocelyn Davis."
"Maybe I got the day wrong." Jocelyn said, pulling her phone out of her purse.
"You're not on his schedule today, so I suggest..."
"Here!" Jocelyn turned her phone around to show her the email. "9AM Tuesday, April 4th with Dave Alpern."
"Let me call him." Jocelyn stood there, watching the receptionist on the phone as she nervously smoothed out her knee-length pencil skirt that she no wishes she didn't wear. "He'll be down to collect you soon."
"Thank you." Jocelyn stood there for a couple of minutes before the front door opened and three young guys walked through the door.
"Hey, you guys were told not to come through the front door if you're going to drag in mud!"
"Sorry, Marlene. I told Sammy and Ty not to, but..."
"I except more from you John Hunter."
"Who is this?" He asked, pointing at Jocelyn.
"That is..."
"Jocelyn Davis, so nice to finally meet you in person!" Dave turned to the guys. "Can you three get ready for the team meeting?" Dave turned back to Jocelyn. "Follow me." Jocely followed Dave to the elevator, faintly hearing the guys talk as they walked away.
"Jeez, Ty, can you stare a little less at her? She's way out of your league." Jocelyn slightly blushed at the comment. She never had anyone say something like that before. As she turned to get on the elevator, Jocelyn made eye contact with the blonde one which she assumes is Ty. She turned away as the doors closed.
"When I suggested hiring a therapist for the company, Joe wasn't exactly on board."
"Oh."
"But, I did my research and convinced him to do it. We had quite a few applicants, but you stood out to us."
"There isn't anything special about me." Dave just smiled. The elevator doors opened and they both stepped out. This place was like nothing Jocelyn had ever seen.
"Let me show you to your office." Jocelyn followed down the long hallway of offices and conference rooms. "We have everything set up as appointments, obviously, but we do also have it as a first come, first serve. I hope this isn't too overwhelming."
"Not at all. It's vastly different than the last place I worked for in Denver."
"You can change how you handle appointments and sessions if how we have it doesn't fit."
"I'm sure I'll be fine." They stopped in front of one of the last doors in the hallway.
"Here's your office." Jocelyn spotted her name on the wall next to the door. She never had that, granted she did work out of an rehab facility. "Take a few minutes to get yourself acquainted with it, and then we have a team meeting to go to." Jocelyn opened the door to her office. HER OFFICE. She couldn't believe it. When she was working for the rehab facility, Jocelyn didn't have her own office. She had shared a space with no less than 5 other therapists at a time. Jocelyn now had her own filing cabinets, a desk, and on one wall sat a small loveseat. She took another minute to look around before she followed Dave to the conference room. Already in the room was a little over a dozen people, including the three she had seen downstairs. She made eye contact with the blonde one, Ty, before he quickly looked away.
"I thought you got lost, Dave."
"Just showing Jocelyn to her new office, Joe." Dave turned to the rest of the group. "I want you all to meet Jocelyn Davis. She is our on-site therapist." Everyone greeted her. "She moved all the way from Denver, Colorado, to come work with us. You are all encouraged to use her as a resource. Denny, 23XI is more than happy to schedule appointments with her." After her introduction, Jocelyn sat quietly in the corner of the room. As she sat there listening to the meeting, she had gotten several notifications from the people in the room on her social media pages. Most of them were on Twitter and Instagram, but one in particular came from Snapchat.
Ty Gibbs added you as a friend!
Jocelyn looked up at him as he paid attention to what Joe was saying. Without thinking, she added him. Jocelyn really didn't use Snapchat very often. The only people she ever sent snaps to were Marisa and her 13-year-old niece and 10-year-old nephew, Mercer and Sutton. Mercer always sent her photos and videos using the filters, and Jocelyn saved every single one of them. She hated not getting to see her, but Mercer, Sutton, and their dad, Jocelyn's brother, lived in Toronto. Evan's job had relocated the pair there three years ago. Jocelyn had been meaning to visit. The meeting soon ended, and everyone left the room, leaving Jocelyn with Dave and Joe.
"Jocelyn." She turned to Joe. "Welcome to the team." he held out his hand. She took it.
"Thank you for this great opportunity." Joe handed her the iPad that was in his hand. "What's this?"
"Everything you need to know about everyone is on here."
"Thank you, Mr. Gibbs."
Please, call me Coach. Joe works, too."
"Thank you, Coach."
"Alright. Let's get to work."

"How was your first day, auntie?" Mercer asked as she video chatted with Jocelyn later that night. "Did you meet Denny Hamlin?"
"I did."
"Did you get his autograph?" Mercer asked, Jocelyn knowing what answer she needed to give her. Mercer loved NASCAR, just like Grandpa Asher. Seeing how much she loved the sport made her miss her dad. "Please tell me you got his autograph!"
"I can do you one better, Miss Mercer. Not only did I get you his autograph, but I got you a whole bunch of Denny Hamlin gear." Jocelyn smiled at how big Mercer's eyes got. "It doesn't stop there. I got you, Sutton, AND dad VIP passes for, drum roll, please!" Mercer, Sutton, and Evan tapped their hands on their kitchen table. "The Coca-Cola 600!"
"What?! No way!"
"Yes, way! I can't wait to see you guys!"
"You are the best, auntie."
"I try."
"Alright, you two. Go get ready for bed so I can talk to Auntie alone." They both said their I love you's and their good night's before leaving the room. "You really didn't have to do that."
"I miss you guys."
"We miss you too. When you called me earlier and told me to take a week off of work, I thought you were crazy."
"I am crazy, big brother." Evan just laughed. "I've got plenty of space at the condo for all three of you. Julia would be happy to see you actually taking a vacation." Julia was Evan's wife, the kids' mom. Julia passed away two years ago from ovarian cancer. It was a big reason why Evan moved the kids to Toronto to be closer to Julia's family. "I'll have everything ready for your stay here."
"Thanks, Joce. You are the best."
"I know I am." They said their goodbyes before handing up. In the time she was on the phone with her brother and his kids, Jocelyn received a few messages welcoming her to the JGR team. She was happy they were all so welcoming of her. She ended with three people coming in that day for a therapy appointment, Ty Gibbs included. They talked about his dad and how losing him is helping him try to mature at such a young age. Jocelyn couldn't help but be drawn towards the young man. She had quickly shook any feelings out the window. She had to be professional. Jocelyn cleaned up her kitchen before heading up to bed, excited to really start her new life here.
