Chapter 12 Gratitude

Chapter 12 

"What's happening?" The shaking has reached a point where trees are beginning to topple over from the tremors. We, along with the rest of the local fauna, are beginning to experience some degree of panic.

"I don't know." Klovis screams. He grabs my hand and pulls me onward. "My guess is that, this realm is about to shut down, which means that we have to get out of here as soon as we can."

As he led me down the road, I did not argue with him and instead quickly followed. The animals around us are letting out frightened shrieks. Moving along the road might probably be the smartest move that we ever made because, out of everything here in this strange realm, only the brick road seems to be moving at a bearable pace. Outside of it, the ground seems to be moving like water, and the creatures running on it were either thrown far off in the air or buried in the trees. It was a disaster.

"No. The realm! It's disappearing!" I look up when I hear Dadi screaming out of fright. He squawked over our heads with a crazy and frightened look in his gaze the moment he turned back to look at the situation. Out of curiosity, I could not help but look back as well.

Everything behind us seems to be clearing like dust. There's like an invisible wall moving behind us at a slow pace, and whatever it touches disintegrates.

I can't help but swallow. "Um, Klovis?"

My wary voice must have caught his attention because he began to look back. A slew of curses leave Klovis's lips.

"Let's pick up the pace, Livia!" His hold on my hand tightens. A creature runs across the bridge in a panic and almost crashes into me, but Klovis pulls me to him. "Stay close and don't let go of my hand. The three of us will get out of here!"

It was easier said than done. With the road moving in an unstable manner, it was hard to keep up the pace without falling. I am surprised that Klovis can even keep his balance while holding my hand and carrying Jade in the other.

"Klovis, slow down. I can't keep up!"

"You have to, Livia. Come on!"

The bricks on the road start to become uneven. It wasn't enough that I was having a hard time balancing myself, and now I have to try and not trip along the way? I am not made for this kind of marathon!
A leopard-like creature darted between Klovis and me, which ended up with us getting separated. Klovis tried to read it out to me, but the sea of panicked creatures around us is drawing us apart. Klovis tries to slow down, but he is being forcefully dragged away. At this rate, if Klovis doesn't move, he will get injured trying to fight them off.

"Keep moving!" I yelled over at him. "I'll be right behind you. I promise!" I'm no fairy, so my promise might not mean much, but I am desperate enough to live.

Since the curse of rage is still working on me, I let it take control of my body. As weird as this may sound, the rage seems to energize me enough to push through the animals lining up and running with us to the exit. It seems like they have figured out that the bridge is the only thing that's stable right now.

I look back and almost have my heart leap out of my chest when I realize how close the barrier was to me. If that invisible hand catches me, I might as well be dead. I can say goodbye to returning to the human realm.

Shit, shit, shit.

"Move faster!" I yell at the throng of creatures before me. All of them were different sizes. The bigger creatures aren't my problem. It's the smaller ones that are running over and under my feet that are causing the most problems. "Damn it!"

I was left with no choice. I start to climb the bigger animals, riding on their backs. When I am able to, I will leap on someone else's back. They were all so focused on running that they didn't even notice me hitching a ride.
