Chapter one: Raven
I wake up from my sleep to hear bells ringing everywhere. People are scrambling as the earth above us is slowly caving in.
"Raven! Raven!" One of the elders yells for me through the now dirt filled air. It is nearly impossible to get to her as I make my way through the fallen rocks and cut off tunnels. "Raven. Child please come quickly." She continues to yell for me as dirt keeps falling and some gets into my eyes. It's hard to breathe due to the dirt lingering in the air.
I make my way to her as quickly as possible while trying to get everyone out of our now falling city. I find my elder trying to push a large boulder off of my older sister, Flora. I tell the elder to go. I can't have her getting stuck here too; the others will need her guidance. She nods and leaves me with my sister knowing that she will only slow me down if I have to worry about getting both of them to safety.
"Hey. You are gonna be alright okay?" I tell my sister, trying to find a root or branch to help leverage the boulder off of her.
"Raven. Damn it." She says, spitting out blood. " You need to fucking leave."
"Hell no. I'm not gonna leave you." I find a root sticking out from the ceiling and I try to make it grow. Unfortunately for the both of us the root already died and I can't control dead plants.
"You know you have always been so fucking stubborn."
"Oh shut up. " I say as I dig through the dirt trying to find anything alive that could help. "Shit. Shit shit shit."
"Well if you're saying shit we are really gonna die." She jokes softly, gasping for air.
"Don't be stupid. You are gonna live." She has to live, I need to find something, anything. Where is Oak when I need him? Fuck.
"There." She says trying to motion to what I assume is a root.
"Where? I don't see it?" Maybe the dirt hurt my eyesight more than I thought.
"Three or four steps to your left." She says. I use my powers in that direction and am finally able to make out the root as it grows towards the boulder. Maple tree, very reliable tree. One of my favorites. Using the root I am able to get the boulder to up enough to get her out from underneath it.
"See we will be fine."
"We aren't out yet." She mutters. I pull her on to my back as I make my way out of the maze that just moments ago was our home. Although everything is destroyed, I can only imagine the amount of people who have passed. I'm sure there will be a rainbow at the end of this shit storm. I'm not sure what I will do if there isn't. It doesn't matter though. As long as my sister is here we can figure it out.
After jumping over fallen rocks and having to rework a different path thousands of times I finally am able to get my sister and myself above ground to meet up with our elder and other family and friends. I set my sister down on the moss covered ground and do a quick head count trying to figure out how many we have lost. As I'm doing so my adrenaline lowers and I feel a stinging one my leg. I look down to see a massive cut on my calf. It must have happened coming back up. One of the elders comes over to me and uses her healing abilities. Unfortunately her abilities do have limits. She is only able to help the healing process move along faster by a day or two. She can't heal anyone who is seconds away from death. After she is finished with me she goes to the doctor to see where she can help.
"Please! No, Let me back down there my son is still down there. Winter! Winter. Don't worry. Mom's coming!" A heartbroken mother yells scratching at the warriors wanting to go back into the death trap that used to be our safe haven. I look down at my sister who grabs my arm.
"No. I will not allow you to add yourself to the ones we have lost." She says seriously coughing and struggling to breathe. I call our doctor over to take care of her before giving her a soft smile and walking back underground. I can tell the warriors didn't want me to go but they also know that I could wipe their bulky asses out any day of the week.
