(LUKA'S POV)

That hot chocolate must have seriously fueled my confidence, because one moment I'm eating breakfast for dinner, and the next I'm casually asking my best friend to slow dance in her kitchen. I really don't know what brought me to do it. Sure, I've liked her since day one, but I can usually hide it better. But in the moment, all I knew was I didn't want to hide it anymore. I wanted her to know. Of course, I couldn't work up the balls to actually tell her out loud, but a slow dance is a step in the right direction.

No matter how much I was internally freaking out, I kept up a calm facade (I think) as I stared into her eyes. They glimmered shades of e/c in the dim light and my heart skipped a couple of beats. She looked a little on edge, so I gave her a reassuring smile.

I knew the song to be about five minutes long, but it felt like only two. Standing there -- Y/N in my arms -- it felt like a dream. The song faded out and we were just standing there. We stopped swaying to the music, and just kinda stared at each other in silence. I glanced down at her lips, somehow knowing it was just wishful thinking to imagine anything more would happen. She opened her mouth to say something, eyes searching mine for who knows what. But before she said anything, the next song came on. As ELO's Livin' Thing blasted through the speaker -- effectively killing the mood -- Y/N and I pulled apart reluctantly.

And then it hit me. What the hell was I doing? It's weird now. Of course it's weird now, who even does that?

Y/N cleared her throat. "Let's get those dishes done so we have time to fix your hair." She officially signaled a mood change, seeming unfazed. But there was some remaining feeling from the previous moment as she took my hand in hers and dragged me back into the main kitchen area. "Wash or dry?"

I stood there, dumbfounded, and still trying to process things. I caught up with the conversation after a few seconds though. "I'll wash." I decided, tossing her a drying towel from the counter. She caught it and turned up the volume on the music. I grabbed a dirty plate and began washing it, slightly dancing along to the upbeat music.

"IT'S A LIVIN THING" Y/N sang along with the music. She took a dry whisk, using it as a microphone, and held it out to me.

"IT'S A TERRIBLE THING TO LOSE" I sang back, exaggerating everything karaoke style.

"IT'S A GIVEN THING" She now sang into the whisk.

"WHAT A TERRIBLE THING TO LOSE" I returned. We started laughing together.

"We should be a musical duo. I think we'd sell out stadiums." Y/N joked as the song started to wrap up.

"Oh totally." I agreed, catching my breath.

"Too bad you've already got kitty section." She shrugged. "But also not too bad cause you guys are amazing."

"Oh stop it, you flatter me." I said with a laugh.

"Good. Talented guys like you deserve to be flattered." She copied something I had said to her earlier, a cheeky grin on her face as she turned to the drying rack. I rolled my eyes, my heart doing a bit of a somersault.

I handed her the last dish and washed out the sink while she dried it. About a minute later, we were officially done cleaning up. Y/N grabbed a bowl from the kitchen before walking off towards the bathroom. I followed her and sat down on the bathroom counter.

"Alright blueberry boy, I'll be back with scissors." Y/N walked off and returned shortly after with scissors and hair dye. She also lugged in a fold out chair. "Sit." She pointed to the chair.

"Aye aye captain." I saluted her before sitting down.

"Nerd." A pause. "Alright, we're cutting your hair first. Then we can pick out some dye, sound good?" She began sectioning off my hair as she spoke. I hummed in response.
