As they sat around the dining table with Aaron's father, mr.jo and with smiles on their face as Anna told them of an incident in school for once in a very long time Anna felt at home and at peace but she squashed the feeling this was neither her home nor her family.
"Anna pray for us"Mrs Beatrice commanded, Evelyn felt so at lost as everyone held hands on the dinner table, when was the last time she prayed or even heard a prayer? It was probably on aunt Simi's grave but that woman was a prayer warrior and the last person she truly believed in. She couldn't remember everything apart from a man dying on the cross to save mankind and psalm 23. At this point with everything that had happened Evelyn did not even believe God existed she hadn't even thought about it, life dealing her too many blows for her to ever sit and think or even blame any one she was too busy trying to survive.
After a little prayer which she heard nothing about too busy thinking( yeah it had only being few seconds since her heart calm and her brain relax and her demons were already getting their pitchforks ready to pull her in back. They ate with only few words spoken asking for help to pass the plate or jug filled with juice.
"So Evelyn tell us about your family?"
Mr. Josh asked and the whole family looked at her, Evelyn wanted to get angry , her family have always being a sensitive topic for her. The fact they shared or open theirs doesn't mean she automatically has to do the same courtesy be damned! But maybe it was the friendly smiles, the sparkle in their eyes or even the atmosphere, Evelyn could swear she didn't know but the words spill out. She wouldn't tell them the dark stuff those were for her demons to kill her with not for any sane human.
" It's ok my dear if you don't wanna share"Mrs Beatrice said giving her husband the stink eye.
"No, it's ok. My mum died years ago and I live with my dad few blocks from here" she replied, "I am so sorry about your mum but your dad must be a wonderful man to raise such a lovely young woman like you" Evelyn felt a little stab in her heart that man was everything in the dictionary that was an antonym to wonderful.
" Yeah, I need to go. He might be waiting for me I didn't tell him I would stay for dinner" she lied that man doesn't care if she died but she wanted to leave, she feared if she stayed a single second longer she was going to spill all her dirty secret.
"Oh sorry about that but you are always welcome to our home. Infact you can come tomorrow, we are having a little Sunday dinner after church." Miss Beatrice offered
Evelyn didn't know what was wrong with her, maybe it was the fact this woman gave her the same feeling aunt Simi did maybe it was a christain thing or not Evelyn could not tell but she found herself whispering in a small voice one reserved for her diary.
" Can I come to church with you tomorrow?"
