Rimuru’s reputation had already been a chaotic mix of "Chunnibyou Sensei," physics whiz, and viral sensation, but when he decided to enter the school chess competition, no one was prepared for what would happen next. He didn't join just to have fun oh no Rimuru wanted to show everyone that his intellect wasn't just for theatrics, but for dominating even the most strategic of battlegrounds. Chess was the perfect arena to prove his superiority.

As he made his way to the chess tournament, wearing his usual confident smirk, the whispers began almost immediately.

"Is that the 'Ultimate Chunnibyou' guy? What's he doing here?"

"Wait, he plays chess too? Is there anything he doesn't do?"

When he took his seat at the chessboard for his first match, his opponent couldn't hide their amusement. They clearly thought Rimuru's reputation was all show, and chess was a game of serious minds not someone who cried at cosplay competitions. Rimuru, of course, played right into their underestimation. He made his first move casually, leaning back in his chair with an exaggerated sigh. "Oh, don't worry," he said, waving his hand dismissively. "I'll go easy on you."

That remark earned a snort of laughter from his opponent, but Rimuru’s face remained calm, completely unbothered. Move after move, he played with precision, slowly dismantling their strategy with ease. By the time they realized they were in trouble, it was too late. Rimuru smoothly placed his queen in position and uttered the fatal words, “Checkmate.”

The crowd watching the match had been casually talking before, but now they were dead silent, eyes wide in shock. Rimuru stood up from the board, grinning smugly. "Ah, that was fun! Who’s next?"

As the competition progressed, Rimuru’s dominance became impossible to ignore. He was outmaneuvering seasoned players left and right, often while talking to the crowd and making sarcastic quips about the simplicity of the game.

"Chess is just another form of combat," Rimuru remarked after one particularly brutal victory. "It's all about strategy. Just like... life. Or physics. Or, you know, dodging trolls online."

The crowd had started to gather in larger numbers, not just students but even teachers who were curious about this "Chessmaster Chunnibyou." Meanwhile, in the back of the room, Hinata Sakaguchi, a top student and Rimuru's unofficial antagonist, watched the matches with a deepening scowl. Every time Rimuru made a brilliant move or pulled off a clever play, her eye twitched.

“Why... Why is this irritating me so much?” she muttered under her breath. “It’s like I know him from somewhere...”

It was as if every move Rimuru made was a personal attack on her patience. His smug demeanor, the way he acted like chess was beneath him, and the fact that everyone in the room was practically swooning over him it all just rubbed her the wrong way.

The final match was where Rimuru’s nickname was truly solidified. His opponent, a well-known chess prodigy in the school, had prepared for this moment, certain that Rimuru’s antics would fail him in the end. The match was tense, with both players thinking several moves ahead. The crowd watched with bated breath.

But Rimuru? He played like he was on a leisurely stroll. He casually moved his pieces, yawning and glancing around the room as if he wasn’t even paying attention. His opponent was sweating bullets, trying to keep up with Rimuru’s unpredictable style. In the final moments, when his opponent thought they had the upper hand, Rimuru leaned forward with a grin.

“Ah, a valiant effort,” he said softly, pushing his rook into place. “But I’m afraid... you’ve just fallen into my trap. Checkmate.”

The room exploded with applause and cheers, students chanting, “Chessmaster! Chessmaster!”

Rimuru stood up, flipping his hair dramatically. “Yes, yes, please. No need to flatter me too much. I only did what was expected.”

The students crowded around him, high-fiving and congratulating him as if he had just won an Olympic gold medal. They had even started calling him "Chessmaster Rimuru," a new nickname to add to his growing list of titles.

But as Rimuru soaked in the attention, he caught a glare from across the room Hinata. She was still standing in the back, arms crossed, her brow furrowed as she glared at him with what could only be described as pure annoyance.

“Seriously, what is it with him?” she muttered under her breath. "Why does he act like he's the king of the universe?"

Unable to contain herself anymore, she stomped over to him. "You think you're so great, don’t you, Chessmaster?" she snapped, putting air quotes around the title.

Rimuru turned to her with a knowing smile. "Ah, Hinata. Here to congratulate me?"

Hinata scowled. "Don’t act like we’re friends! I don’t know why, but just being around you makes me... angry! It’s like you’re this... this annoying presence I can’t escape!"

Rimuru raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Sounds like you’re quite taken with me, Hinata. How flattering."

Hinata’s face turned beet red, and she sputtered. "Taken with you?! Don’t flatter yourself!"

Rimuru chuckled, holding his hands up in mock defense. "Relax, relax. I’m just playing. Besides, if it makes you feel better, I’m not just a Chessmaster I’m also your physics teacher. Think of all the fun we’ll have."

Hinata groaned, slapping her forehead. "Why?! Why does it have to be you?!"

The rest of the students laughed, amused by the banter, but Rimuru just winked. "Fate works in mysterious ways, Hinata. Perhaps it’s a sign that we’re destined for greatness."

She threw her hands up in frustration and stormed out of the room, leaving Rimuru smirking as he basked in both his victory and his new nickname.

As he watched her leave, he chuckled to himself. “Chessmaster Rimuru, huh? I like the sound of that.”
