Alice gulped as she stared at the tattoo on Count Olaf's ankle, the one that had become so familiar to the children, as it was his trademark - a clear sign of danger for the orphans.
Mr. Poe dropped the villain's ankle, looking at him in shock. Violet and Klaus had soft smiles on their faces, clearly taking the revelation as a victory. Alice couldn't find it in herself to do the same; the battle wasn't over yet.
"For the first time in my life, I'm happy to see that awful tattoo," Klaus commented, subconsciously laying a reassuring hand on the lower back of the Everleigh girl.
Count Olaf simply looked at them, expression unfazed as he slowly started clapping, the gesture almost mocking. "Bravo, children."
His accent had dropped, which honestly was a relief for everyone. "Yes, I admit it. I killed Monty."
Alice took in a deep breath, leaning back into Klaus' comforting touch. Count Olaf's words brought back all the anger and grief that she had been trying to bottle down in order to expose him, and she didn't want to break down in front of him.
As the villain confessed to murdering Monty's former assistant as well, Klaus shot her a sympathetic look, silently asking her if she was alright. Alice nodded, shifting slightly closer to him.
"I'm going to put you in jail for a very long time." Mr. Poe announced, and for once seemed to think correctly. Then, all hope went down the drain. "Officers, arrest this man!"
The orphans looked at him with a frown, wondering how he was oblivious enough to not realize they were all Count Olaf's minions, a part of the rouse.

↝ If this was a piece of entertainment for small children, you would know what happens next. The villain's identity and evil plan are exposed, and the police arrive on the scene to put him in jail for the rest of his life. But I can tell you that's as likely as Dr. Montgomery coming back to life. Still, while he may be dead... the reptiles in his collection were very much alive.

The wicked count circled the table, now standing behind the orphans. His arms wrapped tightly around Violet and Alice's shoulders, Klaus held up in the middle of the two.
The reptiles in the cages surrounding them seemed to come to life, screeching and hissing at the villainous man who had murdered their owner.
His minions looked around frantically, scared of this development. But Count Olaf would have none of it. "It's just the Screeching Iguana clock." He dismissed it.
The White-Faced Women seemed to grow pale at the sight of a little creature standing on the shelves behind Count Olaf and the children.
"It's not the Screeching Iguana clock..." One of them said.
"It's the Screeching Iguana." The other concluded.
The actor slowly turned around, coming face to face with the fearsome creature. Its screech was enough to send him hurrying backward, turning around just in time for the iguana to land on his back.
He ran outside of the house, the iguana still hung up on his jacket, while his minions quickly rushed after him.
Alice grabbed Sunny and soon the children, along with a strangely calm Mr. Poe, followed in their footsteps, watching as their truck drove away.
"Count Olaf is driving away..." Mr. Poe remarked as if the children couldn't see what was happening in front of them.
Klaus' eyes averted to the entrance of the labyrinth, catching Count Olaf's languid figure entering through the narrow entrance.
