Grace Hepburn is an expert on lucid dreaming— she's been doing it almost every night since she was four years old. When she dreams, she can visit the most amazing places-a sunlit meadow in the mountains of Colorado, an ocean cliff on the coast of Ireland, or the beautiful untouched islands of the South Pacific. But when she dream of these wonderful places, she's not alone.

There's this boy. His name is Martijn and he's from the Netherlands; she's dreamed with him for as long as she can remember. He's about two years older than Grace, but she tends to forget about their age difference, because they get along so well. She knows every bone in his body, and he knows all the threads that hold her together. He's the closest thing she's ever had to a real friend. He feels so real, so tangible. Like he actually exists. But dreams can't be real, can they?
