"Do you smell that?"

Blink flared his nostrils to taste the rolling breeze above him. Something was wrong; the ancient night reeked of smoke, and the air surrounding him was warm, as if he was standing next to a heater. The Scorpios Rex waded past a few flaring leaves in the undergrowth and found himself on the bypass of an unscaled road, leading downhill. And just beyond the cluster of trees lining its flank was a sight he never expected to find.

"Woah..." His maw parted in bewilderment. Ripper stumbled out from behind, disturbed by the rotten smell, but no less terrified by the view. An inferno of orange and yellow smoke drifted quietly to the skies, smothering out the lights that gave it purpose, and the full moon that gave it life. The flavor of blood was soon to follow in the wind, instinctively forcing both hybrids to salivate at its flavor, only for them to snort away the potential horrors they might find from it. This wasn't normal by any means -- a human town on fire? What could have caused this?

And, more importantly, why did the motor-oil scent that took Seven lead them here?

The obsidian indoraptor swallowed. "You think...?"

"I'm not sure," Blink tapped his toe-claw on the ground. "The flames scream 'hybrid', but I can't see her doing it. It's not like her."

Ripper widened his nares in interest. "What about the Indominus you spoke of earlier?"

Blink shook his head. "Neither of them. This is too different. It feels... different. But, if we're going to find Seven-"

    "NO!"

Both hybrids flinched hard. Their heads whipped from left to right, seeking the source of the roar, and testing their loneliness. Blink's quills raised in alarm, familiarizing the sound to something he recognized in his heart. With a slither of hope, he began trotting down the emptied road, tilting his head every so often to detect noises of the forest.

It wasn't long before he found an owner. Out of the night, a pale creature arrived, swaying from the shadows and carrying whimpers and whines so heartbreaking that it silenced all it found. Including Blink's trembling heart. The creature turned to look up the road, swooning by a smell she found familiar. The two locked eyes.

And their hearts stopped.

"Seven?"

I drunkenly fumbled backward, staring at the blur of black walking toward me. My eyes widened, stomach lurching everso slowly as the figure approached. I hitched mid-breath, trying to take in a scent; I couldn't pick up anything. But once his snout pierced through the haze I failed to break, the world I once knew stopped. And so did I.

    "Blink?"

Blink's eyes were nearing tears. He slowly drew toward me, filling my visage with more of himself -- his stubby black snout, those pointed ridges above his eyes, and that slender poisonous tail that began to wag the more he recognized me. Once he sided my flank, he and I exchanged one last stare of heartfelt promise, before rushing into each other's embrace. His neck quickly rubbed against mine, over and over, until I collapsed with him on the road, still nuzzling him.

"I'm so sorry-" Blink whimpered through his licks. "I l-lost control, I couldn't-"

"It's okay," I grunted, bumping his snout with my own. "That wasn't you. This, though..." I gave him one leisure lick across the cheek and smiled. "This is who I remember."
