Vinnie's P.O.V

We were parked in a desolate lot, the hush of the evening stretching around us. I glanced at Leo and gestured toward the driver's seat. "Swap places," I said.

He hesitated but slid over as I stepped out, heading to the boot. From inside, I pulled out a stack of orange cones I had stashed earlier, setting them down in neat rows.

Leo's brow furrowed, curiosity and apprehension flickering across his face. "What's going on, Vinnie?"

I turned back with a mischievous grin. "How do you feel about a little driving adventure?"

His fingers tapped nervously against his knee. "I don't know... I've never actually driven before."

I let out a low chuckle, nodding toward the cones. "Well, today's the day that changes. I've set up a mini obstacle course. Your first challenge? Zigzag through without knocking anything over."

He swallowed hard but straightened in his seat as I walked him through the basics, showing him the pedals, the steering, the feel of the wheel. His breathing steadied. He gripped the wheel with newfound determination.

And then, with a deep breath, he eased his foot onto the gas. The car moved forward with a smooth, gentle motion. As we arrived at the first set of cones, I gestured for him to make the turn. His hands were firm on the wheel as we manoeuvred the initial cone. His forehead creased in deep concentration as we approached the next obstacle.

Thump! The front tire clipped a cone, sending it tumbling onto its side. Leo tensed, his hands tightening on the wheel.

"Uh oh," he stammered, a hint of shame colouring his words.

"You just killed a man" I quipped, joking about his performance, eliciting a grin from him. "It's just part of the process," I encouraged brightly. "Let's take another stab at it. Nice and steady this time!"

Leo exhaled sharply, nodding as he adjusted his grip on the wheel. His jaw was set, determination flickering in his eyes.

"Alright," he muttered, easing his foot onto the gas. "Here goes nothing." He eased drove the car forward, following my directions to a tee. Unfortunately, his anxiety caused him to miss a cone, sending it crashing to the ground with a loud thud.

I erupted into laughter. "Well, looks like we need to fine-tune your definition of 'nice and steady!'"

Leo groaned, slumping against the seat with an exasperated chuckle. "Hey, at least I'm consistent."

I smirked, nodding toward the remaining cones. "Come on, one more go. Third time's the charm, right?"

With a determined spirit and a dash of humour, we spent the afternoon conquering the obstacle course. With every trial, his confidence strengthened, and his steering grew more reliable. In the end, he had no difficulty smoothly navigating through the cones.

"See, Leo? You're a natural," I praised, clapping him on the back.

A broad, genuine smile spread across his face, his cheeks flushed with pride. "Thanks, Vinnie. I can't believe I'm saying this, but...I might actually get my license."

I smirked. "Told you driving could be fun." Then, with a playful glint in my eye, I added, "Next time, we tackle parallel parking."

Leo groaned dramatically, but his grin didn't fade. We gathered the scattered cones, chuckling at the chaos we'd left in the lot. Once everything was packed away, I slid into the driver's seat, ready to take us home.

The kitchen was alive with activity as we prepared our meal. Sizzling pans, chopping knives, and clinking utensils created a melodious soundscape. The delicious scent of herbs and spices harmonized with the mouth-watering savour of roasting vegetables, making the air almost palatable.
