March 21, 2008. A little over a year since the incident, and a day Bently had been waiting for. On this particular day, Bently's favorite band, Panic! At The Disco, released a new album. He'd managed to convince his dad to drive him to the nearby music store to get the album, but soon Bently noticed his dad was going a different route. "H-hey dad? Um...a-are we lost?" The boy nervously asked. His dad didn't respond. Bently pulled out his phone and looked at the map. They were on a road he'd never even heard of before. "Where are we going?" He asked. Again, nothing. Bently let out a soft sigh and leaned back in his seat.
About an hour later, the car stopped. Bently looked out the window. "Where are we..?" He muttered. Bently's dad got out of the car and opened the trunk, pulling out a suitcase Bently had packed for a vacation that was never going to happen. Bently began putting the pieces together. The "vacation" he was told to pack for, his dad's willingness to drive him somewhere, this unknown place Bently didn't even know existed...his parents were getting rid of him. It all made sense now. He came out as gay to his parents the night before, so of course they'd want to get rid of him now. The boy sighed and got out of the car, his brown eyes not looking up from the ground for even a second as he took the suitcase from is dad's hand. As soon as the boy made his way to the door of the building, his dad sped off, like he wanted to get away from his son as soon as possible. "Great. Just great." Bently muttered to himself as he went inside the strange building. Once he was inside, everything hit him like a pile of bricks. He'd been put into a reform school. All because he was gay. Or that's what he thought at least. He was quickly pulled out of his thoughts as someone grabbed his arm and pulled him to a room. "Here." They said, turning away and walking off. Bently sighed as he stepped into the room. Once the door was shut, he let loose. He angrily threw his suitcase on the ground. "Why?! Why me?!" He yelled, starting to sob. "Being gay isn't wrong..." He muttered to himself.
It all started back in 2004, when 12 year old Bently discovered his new favorite band, Panic! At The Disco, and fell for the guitarist, Ryan Ross. That was the very moment Bently realized he was gay. Yeah, it took him about a year to process everything, but one thing he knew was that he wasn't going to let anyone or anything stop him from being himself. And, yet, here he was. A sobbing mess on the floor of his new room. He let his parents stop him from being himself. "Why did I come out..why why why..." He muttered. He was more mad at himself than at his parents. He knew they wouldn't accept him, but he came out anyway.
A knock on the door interrupted his train of thought. Bently quickly wiped his tears and got up. He hesitated for a second, before deciding to open the door. And he was so glad he did. Standing at his door was a boy. He was perfect in Bently's eyes. Gorgeous green eyes, beautiful blonde hair...perfect. "I..heard some sounds from this room. Are you okay?" The boy asked. Bently couldn't seem to form an answer. All he managed to get out was a very quiet "holy shit" before slamming the door right in the boy's face. Bently slid down against the door and buried his now bright red face into his hands. "Uh...I can come back later?" The boy asked from outside. Bently immediately got up and opened the door again. "Shit I-I'm so sorry I uh..." Bently began, but soon trailed off as he stared into the other boy's handsome green eyes. "You're the new student, right?" The boy asked. Bently just weakly nodded. That was all he could do in the moment. The boy smiled. "Can I come in then? You look like you could use some help unpacking." He said, motioning to the big suitcase behind Bently, which had come open during Bently's...episode. Bently stepped aside and let the boy in.
About two hours later, the two had finally finished unpacking. "You literally packed everything you own." The boy teased. "I'm Malik, by the way." The boy added. Bently looked up, a few strands of his short, curly brown hair hanging down in his face. "I-I'm Bently." He softly stuttered out. Malik smiled. "Nice to meet you, Bently." He said. Bently, however, was too busy staring at Malik to realize he was talking to him. He took in every little detail of the boy's body. The way his hair fell into his face just slightly, the way the hoodie he was wearing was just a tiny bit too big on him. Bently was head over heels in love, and it was only his first day at the new school. "Hey I better go." Malik said, pulling Bently out of his thoughts. "Do you have to?" Bently blurted out, blushing heavily after he realized what he just said. Malik softly giggles. "Yeah I have to. But hey I'm pretty sure we have some classes together, so we'll see each other again sometime." He says. Then he left the room.
Without thinking, Bently pulled out his phone to text Cain, wanting to tell him everything. As he began typing the text, it came back to him. The fire. The funeral. Everything. Bently turned his phone off and threw it across the room. He began sobbing again. "Why is it always me.." He muttered. He was beginning to think he was cursed or something. He didn't even notice Malik had come back in. "I think I- are you okay?" He softly asked, walking over to Bently and hugging him. Bently softly sniffled and buried his head into Malik's shoulder. "What's going on, hm?" Malik asks, running his hand through Bently's hair. "You don't have to answer that if you don't want to. But I'm always here if you ever need to talk, ok?" He added. Bently softly smiled and leaned away. "I-I'm fine...thanks." He softly responded. Malik nodded and went to get up, but Bently grabbed his hand. "Stay..please." He says. Malik smiles and sits down on the bed. "I think you can tell I can't be left alone." Bently jokes, sitting beside Malik. Malik giggles a bit. "Yeah." He jokes along. But then he gets an idea. "Hey I'll be right back." Malik said, getting up and leaving the room. A few minutes later, he comes back with a big box of stuff. "Um..w-what are you doing?" Bently asks. "Moving in." Malik simply responds. "Everyone here had a roommate except me. Well, until now anyway." He says. Bently blushes. Never in a million years did he think he'd have a roommate. And he definitely never thought his roommate would end up being the guy he has a huge crush on.
