Esmeray ( 12 years old )
Today is the day we get out of this prison. Mom has been working on a plan to get us out for years. We have been learning their shifts, schedules, and the map of this place.
Mom managed to get their trust by doing everything they said so we could walk around this place freely and not be locked up in the basement.
When we first got here, we were kept locked in the basement with the other prisoners, but that asshole Nevan had a little crush on Mom. Eww, if you ask me.
She used it against him and got him to let us out of the basement. It took years, but it did happen, and tonight, we are getting out of this hell hole.
Nevan will be out of the house for a couple of hours for a meeting. So that is our window of time to get out of this place since he takes most of the guards with him.
We start working on our plan when he leaves the mansion.
.....
Nevan just left, and our plan is a go. I went and found Mom so we could start our plan.
My job is to keep a lookout so she can take the guards out as we make our way out.
We were almost out the back door when, out of nowhere, Nevan showed up. He was not supposed to be home for the next two hours.
He grabbed Mom by the hair and started beating her up. The Guards held me back, preventing me from going to her. I had tears streaming down my face as I was screaming for him to stop, but he wouldn't.
"Nooooo! P-please s-stop...w-we will-l listen-n p-please...." I sobbed as I was clawing at the hands that were wrapped around me, stopping me from helping her.
After a while, he finally stopped and looked at me with an evil smile. Oh no!
"P-please n-not her-r" she begged. She was all bloody and bruised up. He looked at me and took his gun out.
"I will let you go this time, but your mom here will pay the price." He said, looking at me. Oh no, what is he going to do? Nothing good, that's for sure.
He pointed his gun at Mom with an amused look and said, "Any last words?"
"Nooooo please don't nooo ple..." I begged as I tried to go over to her.
"Esmeray, my beautiful baby girl, I love you so much. I am so sorry for not being able to protect you from all of this. This is not your fault, so please don't blame yourself and live a good life. I love you so much..."
A gunshot sounded. My worst nightmare happened. Mom is lifeless on the floor, covered in a pool of her blood.
"She was taking too long." He shrugged and left.
"Noooooooooooooooo!" I screamed. I was finally let go.
I ran over to her, picked up her lifeless body, and put her head on my lap as I cried for her to wake up. But she didn't. My mom was gone.
I hugged her to my chest as I cried until I passed out from exhaustion.
......
When I woke up, I found myself back in the dark basement. There was dried-up blood everywhere, and there was a tiny window with a small amount of light coming in.
I looked down and saw I was covered in blood. Mom's blood. All the memories from last night came crashing back.
She is gone, and it's all my fault. If I had just stayed home that day, then we wouldn't be here, and she wouldn't be dead now.
It is my fault. It's all my fault that my family is dead and my mom is dead. It is always my fault. My whole family is dead because of me.
Tears were freely flowing down my face as I curled up in a ball in a corner.
After a long time, the door opened, and someone walked in. He came closer and crouched down in front of me. It was Nevan.
"Now now, don't cry. It's not going to get her back, is it?"
"Yeah, because you killed her!" I snapped with tears in my eyes.
He harshly grabbed my chin and made me look at him. "Don't talk to me like that!" He yelled in my face.
"Why? Are you going to kill me? Go ahead!" I yelled back.
He let out an evil laugh. "Oh no, dear! That's too easy for you. I will break you and then make you my little weapon."
With that, he left, and I was left alone with my haunting thoughts again.
