"You smell like a dog," Rosalie comments as Lili entered the room, everyone waiting for Jasper and Emmett's return. "Sorry, I uh, I was at the diner and someone had a dog so I pet it." Lili quickly mustered up the lie, everyone seeing through her but chose not to comment as she pulled off her jacket and sat down next to Bella. Immediately did she search for any wounds, Bella pushing her hands away, "Stop, Lili, I'm fine."
"She's just concerned, like a sister should be," Rosalie defended. Lili sighed, standing up and walking away from Bella who clearly wanted nothing to do with her. "Right. Who was it? Someone you guys know?" Lili questioned towards Edward, leaning against the wall. "This stranger, I didn't recognize his scent," Edward claimed.
"A nomad passing through?" Esme suggests.
"A passersby wouldn't have left Bella's father alive." Rosalie adds. Lili sighed, hating that Charlie was involved in such danger. Jasper and Emmett walk in, Jasper going to stand next to Lili, choosing not to comment on her scent. "The scent disappeared about 5 miles south of Bella's house." Jasper informed them.
"Someone's orchestrating this," Carlisle states. Bella's first thought was the woman who killed and turned her sister. "Victoria?" Alice shook her head briefly, "I would have seen her decide."
Lili turns to glare at Edward, reading his thoughts. "Has to be the Volturi," he spoke, everyone glancing at Lilian. She scoffs lightly. "Don't look at me. I'm not on speaking terms with the blondie king." Alice nods, "I don't think it's the Volturi, either. I've been watching Aro's decisions, too."
"So we keep looking," Emmett stated.
"We'll also take shifts guarding Bella at her house," Carlisle said. Rosalie didn't seem so fond of that, hating that they had to keep guarding Bella anytime someone even showed interest in her. And she didn't even like her, seeing how Bella treated her sister all the time. "Another protection detail?" Carlisle gives Rose a warning look, Rosalie just ignoring him and looking at Lili who seemed to be mentally in and out of the conversation.
"No, she's right. You can't protect me, watch my dad and search for the intruder," Bella says. Lili cleared her throat, "And for the pretty redhead." They all knew she was talking about Victoria, though Bella didn't get the "pretty" comment. "And keep yourselves fed." Bella says, ignoring Lilian's comment.
"I'm not leaving you here defenseless." Edward objects. Lili rolled her eyes, becoming quite annoying with the guy. "Well, I'm not gonna let you starve. And I wouldn't be unprotected. I have..." Lili smirked, knowing she was talking about Jacob. She didn't much care for the love triangle or Bella leading him on but she loved seeing the look on Edward's face when his name was mentioned. "What?" Edward questions, obliviously not being able to read her mind.
