'Beer' With Me

After greeting everyone, I sat around the fire with everyone else. While everyone passed around drinks and started telling old stories- I starting feeling extra queasy. 'God damn the beach.' Without realizing it , had zoned out and was staring at absolutely nothing. I felt out of place even though everyone was really trying to make me feel at home. After what felt like 20 minutes of simply observing everyone, Calum asked me if I'd accompany him to get some snacks from the car and I said yes.

"Having fun?",he asked.

"Yeah, thanks for inviting me."

"You're always welcome Sally",he said with a shy smile.

We walked another 15 steps in silence when I couldn't ignore the question anymore.

"Hey Calum if you dont mind could I ask you something?"

"Yeah of course,whats up?"

"Uh well I hope you dont get mad at him for telling me but I asked Ashton where he got my number from and he said you gave it to him...I was wondering where you got it from exactly."

"Oh..yeah"he paused." I asked Nicole for it a long time ago.so thats where I got it from. Im sorry if the whole situation made you feel uncomfortable."

"No its cool, I was just curious about where you got it from exactly."

'Why did he need my number?' I should've asked but I didn't want to seem to clingy to the whole thing.

We reached the car and that's when I saw them again.

'Oh dear God no. Not those two.'

"Fuck", I accidentally said out loud as I saw them approach us.

"Everything okay potty mouth?", Calum asked and laughed simultaneously.

'Do I tell him or not? '

"Hood!", I heard Steve call out to Calum

"Whats up dickhead",Calum replied as Jill arrived and gave him a greeting hug.

"Guys this is Sally. Shes in our math class."

"Hi, its nice to officially meet you-I'm Jill and this is Steve."

I chose not to speak for they might recognize my voice so I smiled and waved politely.

"Well we're going to head on to the fire so see you there Hood." Steve totally ignored me and I soon understood why.

"Yeah,we'll be there with the snacks."

With that they walked away and I could finally breathe. We got the snacks and started our way back to the fire when it suddenly hit me- 'fuck theyve heard me talk before in class,could I get any dumber?' I couldn't figure out if they knew it was me and without realizing it I had stopped walking and was staring at thin air again when his voice broke me out of one trance but drew me into another.

"Sally whats wrong? And please dont say nothing, I know we havent been friends for long but we cant ever have a solidified friendship if youre going to treat me like a stanger for eternity."

"Calum there's nothing wrong I swear-its just that I've unofficially met Jill before and-"

I stopped mid-sentence because I finally got my answer-"its nice to officially meet you". They knew it was me that had caught them. What bothered me was how this whole thing was actually on my mind-'who cares if they knew.'

"And? Earth to Sally!"- he waved his hand infront of me.

"Okay I've gotta tell you something- but Calum you have to promise me this stays between us."

He held out his pinky and had this ridiculously mesmerizing smile on his face.

"I not only promise but I pinky promise."

"Easy there Hood thats a huge commitment."

 I laughed back at his gesture. We locked pinkies and I told him exactly what happened in one breath. While telling him about my scarred memory he didn't interrupt me once and that made me smile like a little kid in a toy store.

"HOLY SHIT YOU POOR POOR CHILD", was the first thing he said after he laughed till he cried/couldn't breathe. When he caught his breathe he looked at me with a bazillion dollar smile and said- "welcome to Australia Sally Jones."

We reached the fire and everyone was shitface drunk. 

"CALUMMMM MY LOVELY BANDMATE YOU MADE IT BACK!!!!! WAIT-WERE YOU TWO MAKING OUT??",Mikey said as he wobbled around. Calum was red from laughing and Mikey saw  it as something else.

"No Micheal. Shit down before you embarrass yourself and make Sally uncomfortable",he half laughed.

We sat down and beers were passed around to everyone who didn't have one. I declined one as I had no interest in alcohol. 

"Oh come on Sally-dont be such a buzzkill. Dont try to be that person whos too good to drink with her friends", Nicole slurred.

"Im not trying to be anybody Nicole. I dont need booze to make me somebody Im not or somebody thats more appealing. You continue living your fantasy by getting drunk,Ill stick to reality."

Remember how I said everyone was shitfaced? Well to back up that statement let me tell you what Nicole did next. She ran towards me,pushed me to the ground and spilled 2 bottles of beer all over me.

"Oh my bad",she said in her regular bitch tone.

Did I want to beat her up? Yes. Did I pursue the desire? Sadly no. If I did then there would be no difference between me and her.

"That was lame and fucking low even for you Nicole. Thanks for proving her right though", Ashton said as he grabbed his jacket and attempted to walk. He was drunk but even so he was a loyal friend.

"Come on Sally,these hobos don't deserve our time", and with that Ashton threw me the keys and we continued our way back to my dorm in complete silence
