As I walked to school I braced my self for another lame day. It was now Friday,my 5th day of school and I wasn't loving it too much. 'Youre hear to lean not become the woman of every boys dreams',Id tell myself. I was about 3 minutes away from the main building when I saw him. On the bench,he sat there shaking his leg, head in his hands. His dirty blonde hair looked heavenly in the morning light, The second I saw him my heart dropped. 'Sally do not let yourself have a crush on him. Nicole would rip you apart'. Since Monday I found myself staring at the back of his head in every class we had. I didn't do anything about it because I knew soon enough I'd stop having these weird hormonal rushes. He looked up and our eyes caught. His heavenly blue eyes glistened and I could see he was tense. I immediately dropped my gaze and could feel my face burning up in the cold autumn air. I picked up the speed to get Luke out of my line of vision as quickly as I could, little did I know he was sitting there waiting for me,
'Hey',he said and immediately cleared his thought.
"Hey Luke",I replied as my heart pounded harder than Jill and Steve on the bed.
"How're you?"
"I'm good. You?"
"Not so good"
"Everything alright Luke?"
"Remember your first day when Nicole created this beyond awkward moment between us?"
"Yeah I remember".
"Well every since then I feel like such a douchebag and you probably think I'm some egoistic bastard who thinks he's too cool to talk to new kids but I swear to you I'm not."
"I never thought you were Luke." I said looking at the ground.
"And I thank you for that but you should know I've been avoided you all week because I'm disgusted with myself. I should've told Nicole to shut the fuck up and I shouldve apologized that second and made you feel comfortable around us. I'm really sorry Sally, I sorry for making you have to go through that and I just wanted you to know that."
"I'm sorry too Luke. I was equally apart of the awkward moment and shouldve explained myself to you. Plus I'm sorry you felt that way."
"So could we make try to forget that and move on?" He moved closer, hands still in his pockets as he leaned towards me.
"Already forgotten", I said with a smile.
My emotions were in a frenzy. My heart was twerking and I could barely stand. People never apologize to me. Even if they're wrong, I'm always the one to do it first.
"Can I walk with you to class?", Luke broke the silence and when I looked up at him I saw a whole different person. His eyes were no longer deranged and full of worry ,his face wasn't sulked and his jaw was no longer tight. It was like he regained all his youth. The ways his eyes glistened would never be described with words. Every adjective failed to do them justice-he was something else.
"Earth to Sally", he snapped to bring me back from Luke Land and had a ken doll grin of his face.
I was about to say yes when suddenly I saw Nicole. Luke had his back to her and I knew I had to get out of there before she saw me talking to him. Was I scared of Nicole? No-but girls like her sure knew how to make ones life hell and I did not have the stamina or time to sit around and deal with the drama and pain she was bound to cause.
"Yeah sure, I said as I followed my plan not wanting to hurt his feelings.
"We have Math first period right?", I asked him even though I knew the schedule by heart.
"Yup."
"Oh fuck."
"Whats wrong?"
"I left my book on my desk".
"That's alright we can share today." 'Fuck no' I thought. 'Thats the last thing I need right now'
"Thank you but I'm going to be run and get it. I think I left my inhaler in my room too."
"Oh yeah. Do that. Wait why do yo need an inhaler?"
"Asthma," I said as I moved to turn back.
"You shouldn't be running then Sally. Ill get it for you."
'Jesus Hemmings now is not the time to be a gentlemen'.
"Nah its cool I got it thanks though."
I saw Nicole getting closer and took that as my cue to run as fast as I could before he could stop me again.
I had no intention of running back to my dorm for no reason,so I hid behind a tree until Nicole and Luke were out of sight. Unfortunately they walked awfully slow and by the time I made it to class,I was already 10 minutes late.
'Fuck'.
As I entered everyone's attention shifted to me and I began my face beginning to burn up.
Ms.H looked up and said, " Oh good you're here. Take a seat Sally".
"Ms.Hemmings I can explain-"
"No need honey, Luke told me what happened. Do you have your book now?"
"Yes ma'am."
"Oh good. Back to what I was saying.."
As i walked to my seat I noticed it was occupied and the only empty one was next to one of Luke's friends who I hadn't talked to before. I sat as he gave me the goofiest smile ever,
"HI! Im Michael", he whispered over Ms.H's voice.
"Sally", I whispered back with a smile.
After class was over I walked out with the intention of spending my free period on a bench until I heard someone call my name from behind.
"Sally wait up!"
I turned around to see Michael running to catch up to me.
"Damn it you're fast. Almost lost you in this crowd of studious zombies."
I laughed at the rest he acted out what he meant.
"Where're you headed off to?"
"The benches".
"Bitches? Where are those at?", he said as he smiled.
"Haha benches Michael,benches,"
We both laughed and I somehow started developing a longing to be friends with a guy like him
"Whatre you going to do there?",he asked
"Uh I usually spend my free periods there. I usually try to study or stare into blank space."
"Wow. I know this doesn't compare to how amazing your routine sounds but why don't you hang out with us instead. I see you walking with Nicole but when shes with us you always leave, Oh shit-you don't hate us or anything?"
"No Michael! Of course not! I want to sit with you guys and stuff bur I don't want to be an intruder in your group and I honestly dont know what to talk about", I said as Michael leaned on the deep red lockers.
"Well lucky for you I never stop talking so that way instead of seeming like you don't have anything to say it'll seem like you never have a chance. Now lets go!"
As he said this he grabbed my arm and ran around dragging me with him. I couldn't stop laughing in admiration of how down to earth he was. Until now I was kinda scared of him, I didn't know what kinda guy he was. I thought he might be the type that likes very selective people and doesn't approach them since he expected them to approach him. Boy was I wrong. As we ran together I got a better look at him. His lips were rather red and had green eyes that spoke for themselves. His blonde hair was swept all over the place and had a unique fringe on one side that usually covered his left eye preventing his eyes from drawing in and mesmerizing anyone who looked at him.
"Where're we going Michael?", I asked.
Music room, he said with a toothy smile that literally formed the letter D.
