Flashes of warm lighting, and shapeless faces swirling in my vision- close enough to see the hallowed, darkened eye sockets, but far enough I couldn't reach. I screamed but my voice doesn't carry any meaning- suffocated and smothered, not loud enough to make the faces go away. I try fighting, but my arms weighed nothing short of a ton, anchoring me down to an unmarked grave.

I screamed, and I fought, maybe not on the outside, but on the inside, I was an army- 500 men strong and armed, ready to die for their cause.

I wasn't alone either- somewhere from the sidelines a lone wolf joined my men, equally fierce and strong- maybe even more so than the rest.

I didn't think the additional straggler would make a difference against this evil, but I'd be wrong. The faceless shadows dispersed, the depth of their eyes slowly faded away, leaving behind nothing but smoke and ash.

The weight had been lifted, my voice now echoed throughout the battlefield of this barren room, and I was almost alive, but not quite.

My hand came up to cover my face from the light that beamed against my face, sharping the pain behind my eyes. The sounds of my pillow rustling in my ears stirred me to my senses- slowly awakening me from a sleep I don't remember having. The sounds fade in and out- first, it was the birds outside the window, and then the sound of a male voice narrating- wait, he sounded familiar- Robert Clotworth?

I listen a little harder... Is that ancient fucking aliens playing?

I open my eyes, which only intensifies the pounding between my temples, blinking away the blurred vision of the room. It was almost unfamiliar, but when I saw her- it became clear.

It was my old room, Ellie's room- except I was on the wrong side like I was looking into a two way mirror. I looked down at the sheets, dark grey and navy- painfully familiar in both how the fabric felts against my legs, and how the smell encapsulated my body, bringing a sense of relief that was replaced by sadness in an instant.

"Oh-" Ellie paused the series that she was watching from her laptop- never really watching it, but she used it as noise to drown out her thoughts of every way this encounter could go wrong.

"You're awake, how are you feeling?" Ellie asked, almost nervous in her speech as she places the laptop further down the empty mattress, leaning in at the edge of the bed from the opposite side of the room.

I rubbed my eyes, blinking at her to focus in on the voice. She sounded sweet- a beautiful melody I could never forget, but she looked different. The bags under her eyes were more prominent than I had ever seen in the past, her skin a paler shade of alabaster, which I didn't know could happen, but something else was different, "your hair... you cut it."

"Huh? Oh-" She forced a chuckle, bringing her hand up to rub the now shorter hair on the back of her neck.

It suited her- the hair cut. It was choppier, messier- made her look older in a way.

Forget the fact that I completely ignored her question, but to say something like that after every that had happened these past few weeks, hell, the past 12 hours- I think I'm still dealing with the after effects of whatever I ingested from the night before.

"Yeah- kept gettin' in the way." She forced another laugh, looking at me for as second before looking down to her hands.

I sat up, bracing my hands at the edge of the bed, and closing my eyes to stop the room from spinning.

"You should take it easy-" Ellie gets up, taking a few steps to my- her side of the room and offered me a bottle of water.

I take it from her and unscrewed the cap, letting the liquid coat the inside of my mouth, and all the way down my throat.
