chapter six.

DAWN WALKS INTO the diner with Donna and they spot Hyde and Kelso. "Hey, guys." Donna says.

"Hey, man, where's Forman?" Hyde asks.

"Uh, I don't know. He's not with us." Dawn says as she sits down next to Kelso.

"He's with that damn Buddy again. You know, he only hangs out with Buddy 'cause he's got a Trans Am." Hyde says.

"So? You guys only hang out with Eric 'cause of the Vista Cruiser and the basement." Donna says.

"We've been friends with Forman since he was a kid, man." Hyde says.

"Yeah, when I met him, he didn't even have a Vista Cruiser." Dawn says.

"That's right." Kelso says. "Remember when he used to have that tree house and the go-kart?" Kelso asks.

Then, Frank comes out looking angrier than usual. "Hey, you. Buy something or get out. I've got a big wedding coming in." He says.

"Frank, you don't have a big wedding coming in." Hyde says.

"Oh, did I say wedding? Because I meant to say, buy something or get out." Frank says before walking away.

"Fine. I'll go some place else then." Hyde says as he stands up and begins to walk away. Then, he stops and turns around. "Come on, let's go."

"I'm not going anywhere. I just bought a hot dog." Kelso says. Hyde scoffs.

"I'm outta here." Hyde says. He leaves the diner and after a few moments, comes back inside.

Dawn chuckles and takes a few fries from Kelso. After a while, Donna and Dawn walk back to her house. "Is your mom home?" Donna asks.

"Yeah. She made cookies last night." Dawn smiles. Donna doesn't smile when Dawn does, so the Stevens girl stops. "Ok, what's wrong?"

"Eric hasn't called me." Donna says.

"You saw him at school today." Dawn says as the two continue walking.

"But he hasn't called me, Dawn. What if he doesn't really like me?" Donna asks.

Dawn raises her eyebrows. "Doesn't like you? Do you hear yourself?" She asks. "Of course Eric likes you! Every time he talks to you, he stammers, every time you hug him, he sweats, and every time he looks at you, he gets that look in his eyes."

Donna raises her eyebrows. "And Hyde does that same to you." She says. Dawn realizes and sighs.

"That's different." Dawn says.

"How?"

"Because I'm supposed to like Kelso!" Dawn says. "That's how this narrative is supposed to go. I'm supposed to have a crush on Kelso that'll go away after a while, not a crush on Hyde!"

Donna stays quiet for a minute. "But you like Hyde." She says. Dawn nods.

"I like him so much." Dawn whispers. "And I don't know what I'm gonna do, so you have to come home with me and read magazines and listen to The Rolling Stones."
