On the day of the party, I arrived at school adorned in my wrap dress, the fabric swirling around me like a gentle embrace.

As I walked through the halls, I could sense a mix of excitement in the air, but for me, there was a little sorrow in it.

My footsteps felt heavier than usual as I was on the way to my classroom. The vibrant decorations and cheerful chatter seemed distant like echoes reaching my ears from a faraway place.

The weight of Noah's grandmother's death and Noah's absence hung over me, reminding me that this celebration was bittersweet.

As the clock struck eight in the morning, we all went to the auditorium of our school, to watch some events.

A beam of sunlight reached my face. That sunlight reminded me of,

Noah.

Probably he's at his grandma's funeral right now.
I hope he's okay.

"Jane?" Tom called me.
"Oh hey, hi."

He sat next to me and leaned over a little closer.
"You're looking beautiful today," he said.

I laughed, "You as well, young man."
He laughed as well, "Thank you, your highness."

His eyes filled with hope, watching me.

"Hey, Tom!" Anthony, my neighbour, also Tom's best friend, called him.
"Oh! H-hey!" Tom replied while looking at me a few times.
"You two having a great time? I guess I won't disturb you now. Bye!"

"Looks like Anthony has a sense of timing," I said with a playful smile.

Tom chuckled, but his eyes still held a touch of seriousness. "Yeah, he's got that knack."

My thoughts often drifted back to Noah and his absence. Tom seemed to sense my distraction and his expression softened, "If you need anything, Jane, just let me know. I'm here for you," he said softly.

"Thank you, Tom. That means a lot."

As the party came to an end, Tom offered to walk me to my class. We strolled through the now less crowded hallways, and I couldn't help but appreciate his company. He's a good friend, always there when I needed someone to talk to.
