"I can't believe we're doing this."

"Why wouldn't we be doing this?"

I could see the replay in our head as Lula thought again and again about that moment when Koba kissed her. She'd been humming in my head and dancing on cloud nine ever since. I'd never shared with Lula this feeling of absolute happiness that she felt before. So, I kept my comments to the sidelines and let her enjoy this feeling without any commentary from the peanut gallery.

But now, we were on our way to the woods to find our Mate in the dark and my nerves were coming back. "Remember what Koba said. Barret has been noticing you. He is thinking about you- about his real Mate."

I had shifted in the dark, still hidden in the shadows of the trees. The pale moon light danced across my claws as I stretched out my newly shifted limbs. I felt a couple cracks and heard a few pops from still stiff bones. It had been less than a week since I last shifted, but with the different structure of the Italian Wolf in me, a few days felt like months on my wolf body. Lula needed out. She needed to breath. She needed to run. She was a beast that wasn't made to stay inside for more than a day. Half of her happy humming all day has been solely knowing she'd get her moment of freedom in the  moonlight during this encounter.

"How in the hell are we supposed to find him anyway? Koba was a little vague on his location."

"Why must you be such a Debbie Downer, right now?" Lula shook our her fur, the tinges of gold shining in the moonlight as she finally stepped out from the tree line. "And stop talking like you don't know. If you took our Mate bond seriously for once, you'd already know that answer. I'm already in charge anyway, so sit back and leave it to me." Lula closed her eyes and in a blink, she could feel it in the bones. The natural sensation of knowing what direction her body needed to take her. No, it wasn't a GPS. She didn't have his exact coordinates, but she knew if she headed north she had a good chance of crossing his path eventually. And so, she took off for North and knew in her heart she would see her Mate soon.

The MoonTrace Pack territory was large and she didn't expect to find him immediately. After ten minutes of running, she still hadn't found him, but someone had found her. Or someones. The crunch of leaves and snap of twigs behind her moved in such a hurry, she knew multiple wolves were about to flank her. As it was not her intention to cause alarm, Lula slowed down her pace. Although, for her a 'slow down' was the same pace these wolves came for her. She slowed one more hair and they ran passed her. Two wolves- one black and one spotted brown coat- stopped and swiveled to face her. They slowly approached her, sniffing the air around her with their heightened senses as if that would give them answers before they asked. When Lula stayed relaxed, not taking a defensive stance, they shifted back and stood tall on their two feet.

The black furred wolf was 6' 2" with blond shaggy hair. He had a set of abs that could easily make your eyes follow their trail, but Lula quickly put her gaze on the other one as he stepped closer to her. Same height, a little more slender and freckles across his cheeks to match the spots in his fur. "You do not hold the scent of our pack-" He spoke up, "- who are you and how did you come to our territory?"

Lula began the shift, giving the reins back to me. I pushed myself up from my crouch and stared him down, making him keep his eyes on mine. "My name is Cat. I am not a pack member, but I was brought here by your Beta and invited to stay by your Alpha." They exchanged a silent glance, no doubt mind-linking their roaming Alpha as they did, ready to call me out on my bluff. Only a minute of silence passed between us and he was there. His wolf was massive, bigger than any other wolf I'd seen - which was expected for an Alpha, I guess. His fur was a mocha brown with caramel highlights that stood out in the moonlight. Lula howled in our head, itching to get out at the sight of Koba. As if he could hear her calling to him from inside me, his red wolf eyes gazed over us- standing there in all our naked glory.
