PRESENT

GENEVIEVE

"Have you given any thought to Mikhael's proposition?" Aleksandr asked as we entered the elevator of HAO.

Looking up at him, I nodded, organizing my thoughts before speaking. "Yes, thanks for the generosity, Ale. However, I don't think going into media is suitable for me." I sighed, and then continued, "I... I don't like being the center of attention, nor have I ever wanted fame or popularity. So, I'll have to decline. It isn't the profession I'd want to choose in first place."

My response was foolish, I know. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me. Aleksandr could take me to the skies if only I agreed. But like I mentioned, it's neither my passion nor my desire.

Originally, my plan was to return to my hometown once all of this ends and I've paid off the debts. I could spend the rest of my life there with everything I inherited from my mother. But after last night, everything has changed.

I just don't know what the future holds for me.

"I see," Aleksandr's response came as we exited the elevator, the doors closing behind. "I understand," he said.

His hand deliberately reached for mine, sending delicious sparks through my fingers where he touched.

"Woah," another familiar pair of emerald green eyes came into view, almost making me yank my hand away from Aleksandr's grip, but he only tightened it, leaving me unable to do so.

The other male's grin widened at the sight, clearly relishing my embarrassment. "What a lovely day," Emi said with enthusiasm, standing in front of me. "Good morning, Gen."

I raised an eyebrow at his greeting; as annoying as he is, the man never does good mornings, unless there were some ulterior meaning behind his words, which I couldn't, and do not wish to address.

"Good morning," I responded curtly, not enjoying the way he smirked at his brother, who only sent death glares at his way.

Oh, how different siblings could be.

"Let's go," Aleksandr broke the awkward silence among us, guiding me forward, away from Emi. But likewise, the other man followed from behind, his mischievous smile still in place.

"You know," Emi whispered in my ear, making me glare up at him slightly. "You smell like my brother. And it's damn heartbreaking, Gen."

"I can hear you, Emi," Aleksandr's icy tone followed, annoyed as ever. "Thank God I'm loud enough." Emi only laughed when his brother growled, probably tempted to break the guy's perfect sculptured jaw, to which he had little care about as he found it more enjoying to just irritate us.

I know Emi has already guessed what happened between me and Aleksandr. That's the only reason he's acting so cocky about it.

"What are you doing here today? Thought you had important business to attend to," Aleksandr tried to lighten the atmosphere. Emi shrugged nonchalantly, caring little for his brother's words.

"Didn't feel like going. So I stayed." I rolled my eyes at his response, as he sends me a wink.

Tsk, rich peoples and their instincts.

Aleksandr also managed to shot him a dirty look. Soon, the three of us headed to our respective destinations, preparing for the long day ahead.
