At Night
Everyone entered the dining room for dinner, the atmosphere significantly more relaxed than the earlier tension-filled moments. The dining table was set with an array of delicious dishes, their savory aroma filling the room and easing the remaining strains of unease.
Tae and Jungkook found themselves sitting opposite each other, their eyes occasionally meeting but quickly diverting as if neither wanted to confront the unspoken emotions lingering between them. Tae was engrossed in his plate, his thoughts a whirlwind of confusion and unresolved questions.
Jin, always the peacemaker, initiated a conversation. "So, how has everyone's day been?"
The question prompted a round of light-hearted discussions, as everyone shared snippets of their day except for Tae and Jungkook.
"Jungkook we haven't seen you since afternoon. Where were you?" Namjoon asked while munching on his food.
Tae and Jungkook made eye contact but it was only for a few seconds. Jungkook gulped the food in his mouth and faced Namjoom.
"I went out for a Run. It's been a long time since I have taken a run." Jungkook said. Namjoon nodded and continued his eating.
"Hmm..where's Ava?" Jimin asked looking around him.
"She went to Omega Den. I think she will be staying there tonight." Jungkook said.
Other members exchanged glances in confusion. The news about Ava's absence prompted a few exchanged glances among the other members, curiosity evident on their faces.
"Who's this Ava? Is she Alpha Jungkook's Mate?" Soobin asked out of nowhere. Members looked at Tae worriedly while Tae looked at Jungkook to know how he would answer it.
"Hmm..She is not my mate...since I haven't met my mate till now*glances Tae*" I selected her as one but it is still not confirmed." Jungkook said.
The room was silent for a moment, the revelation hanging in the air. Tae's heart skipped a beat as he felt Jungkook's gaze on him, and he lifted his eyes to meet Jungkook's. There was a mixture of emotions in Jungkook's eyes – uncertainty, regret, and something else that Tae couldn't quite decipher.
The other members exchanged surprised glances, seemingly taken aback by Jungkook's candid response. Even Lycus was taken aback by Jungkook's words.
"Are you sure? You aren't gonna marry her, right?" Lycus blurted out, with anticipation.
"Shut up Lycus," Jungkook said and pushed Lycus back.
Jimin leaned in, trying to change the topic "So, what happened at the ball party? Why didn't you guys attend?"
"Oh!...we are sorry for not attending the ball party that day. There were some issues within the pack and we couldn't able to come here without solving it." Yeonjun replied. Others nodded understandingly.
"For now, let's enjoy this meal and catch up with each other," Namjoon said raising the wine glass. Everyone clinked their glasses.
The conversation flowed into lighter topics, and the atmosphere gradually shifted from tension to camaraderie. As they shared stories and laughter, Tae couldn't help but steal glances at Jungkook, his heart aching with the need for a deeper conversation to know if his words were true.
After dinner, the pack members dispersed, finding their own spaces to unwind. Tae decided to retreat to his room after helping Jimin with the dishes, hoping for some solitude to collect his thoughts.
As he settled into his room, Tae's mind was filled with memories of the ball party. The events of that night replayed in his mind like a vivid movie, each moment etched with its own emotions.
