The whole 'My forms in my head thing'

Idk why I have to explain why this is wrong but here we go :)

In many fanfics I've seen, all of Sonic's forms such as Dark, EXE, etc. dwell in Sonic's head and they have conversations throughout the vast majority of the book. There's nothing inherently wrong with this trope, however it has slowly become over-used and even offensive concerning mental health.

Let's start with Dark:
Dark is often the most commonly used of the forms and is Sonic's 'evil' side or even just something he transforms into to protect his friends or lover - in most cases. I have seen Dark be utilised to show the corrupted lust Sonic feels for Shadow - which was a good idea until Dark railed Sonic in his head 💀 - and even just as a figure who poses a threat to Sonic. He is often a foil to Super - one of Sonic's other forms - and both he and Super commonly take the roles of devil and angel on Sonic's shoulder.

In theory, Dark is a well made threat. He poses a sense of omnipotence and omnipresence as he is in Sonic's mind and knows what he is doing, sees what he sees and can actively talk to him. Additionally, he is often set up as a threat that waits for Sonic to show a sign of weakness - giving him a similiar method of 'hunting' as a predator. In practice, Dark's full potential is never used and he is often undermined or even out of character for entire books. In many books, he exists in Sonic's head as some form of annoying shipper who tells Sonic things such as 'they're cute aren't they, ask them out!'

Dark is commonly used in books that show Sonic is insane. If this isn't done correctly, it can come off as offensive as real people do suffer with Split Personality Disorder. Insanity isn't some interesting trope, so please if you use it try to do as much research as you can and portray it in the least offensive way you can.

Now, Super:
Super is a lesser used form used seen as Super, in actuality, is just Sonic when using the chaos emeralds. He never plays a bigger role outside of telling Sonic 'Don't trust Dark' - however sometimes he is actually shipped with Dark for some reason (I will go into detail later)

The very grounds of Super being in Sonic's head don't make much sense when you think about it; Shadow should have his own Super in his mind or Super should just not exist as it is just Sonic, but overpowered and golden. As stated before, he does play into the 'angel and devil' trope along with Dark, however that's the best usage of him really seen.

Super is commonly implemented into books with Dark to act as his foil and, sometimes, the thing that stops Dark for atleast a little whilst Sonic figures something out. There's nothing much people do with Super outside of this so we can move on.

We do really need to talk about EXE:
EXE, on surface level, is essencially just a creepier version of Dark with the exact same tropes, threats he poses and style of getting rid of Sonic - waiting until he is weakened to take control. Despite this, EXE often fades into the background of the many forms in Sonic'shead despite being a very prominent one in most books.

The main differences between EXE and Dark is that EXE, if we dig very deep into his character in many books, is some sort of cannibal whether this is joked about or set up as a real threat. Additionally, many books make EXE ţăłķ ĺīķê ţhïš as an omage to his creepy pasta origin of being a glitch, which is a nice touch when it's actually legible.

Unfortunatley, EXE doesn't go any deeper than that. He is an under utilised character that perhaps shows more insanity than Dark with the cannibalistic hints many books use as throw away lines or just 'funny' jokes - which can be offensive looking at real world situations regarding cannibals.

Now, onto the main reason I made this section: shipping the forms.

As stated before, Dark and Super are often shipped for the 'opposites attract' trope. If we ignore the fact that they are basically the same person in someone's head, the relationship as a whole would be unhealthy and overall just really weird to think about - imagine having 3+ personalities in your head and hearing 2 of them going through the whole 8+ steps to romance constantly, I'd saw my head off in a week. There are, of course, many other forms shipped together but a lot of what I'm about to say about Dark x Super applies to the rest of the ships.

I have seen many fanfics where Dark and Super have a romantic bond within Sonic's mind - which in all honesty reaches another level of fever dream when in a few it's alluded to that they rail eachother, but I digress. Super is of course Sonic, however Dark isn't. Despite this revelation, Dark is still some type of Sonic's mind and Sonic actively antagonises him for the most part - meaning Super would too.

Additionally, the entire basis of shipping Sonic's forms really takes away the interesting aspects and waters down any possible threat some like Dark and EXE pose. This and, as I have stated before, the fact that they are all the same person but represent different parts of Sonic's brain - if we really wanna look into it.I guess, what I'm trying to say is, just don't ship them.

Here's some tips to avoid this:
- Give the forms something to do (eg make Dark send warnings in Sonic's dreams)
- Don't ship them
- Give them each time to shine or atleast give them enough notice so readers understand their personalities
- Try not to use offensive tropes within them
- Don't make them a joke

Feel free to add to itand I may address the rest of the forms if requested.
