yena's POV

laying back on my bed, i stared at my roof in the light of the slowly arising sun. i hardly slept last night worrying about the audition. i know i ran into han and he suggested it, but it was just all so overwhelming for me and i had a lot of anxiety about the whole situation. i mean, he did invite me to audition off the street after all. i can't be good enough to compete with other professionals who have been training to become an idol all their life.

i decided to open my phone to turn off my 7:30am alarm before it had the chance to go off, and noticed that i had a new bubble message notification that just came through... from han. it read:

'you're perfect, i promise. go for it~'

something in me stirred when i read this. maybe he was referring to me, maybe not. regardless, the iceberg had been tipped and i finally made my decision after hours upon hours of overthinking and consideration.

"screw it, just do it." (a/n: get the reference, my friends? idk it just popped into my brain)

i jumped out of bed and began getting ready, already starting to feel the time pressure with only about ten minutes to get ready if i didn't want to rush on my way there.

wanting to feel comfortable but also have some flexibility when dancing, i picked out some khaki cargo pants and a beige tank top, paired with my favourite white sneakers.

i tied my hair into a low messy bun that was secure enough to prevent it all from falling out, and put some light concealer over my prominent acne spots before gathering my belongings

i tied my hair into a low messy bun that was secure enough to prevent it all from falling out, and put some light concealer over my prominent acne spots before gathering my belongings. i picked up my phone, charger, a spare hair elastic, water bottle and keys and put them all into a small white satchel i bought online a few weeks ago.

even though lily and i's kitchen is pretty dry these days, i managed to find some fresh banana bread in the cupboard and i packed a slice in my bag. lils must have made it yesterday. i was about to go thank her for it and let her know i was leaving, but i chose not to disturb her because she was probably still sleeping. it was a sunday morning after all, she deserves some good rest after a long week.

i locked the apartment door behind me and was on my way, following the navigation on my phone to find my way there. the JYP building was in quite a tucked away area, away from all the bustling part of the city, which i appreciated. it was pretty.

i stepped through the large front door and was greeted by a woman that looked to be in her mid-thirties at the reception desk. "hi there, sweetie! anything i can help you with?"

"hey, i'm actually supposed to be attending an audition today. am i at the right place?" i informed, being careful of how i composed myself. i may not be as good as the other contenders, but i'm sure as hell determined to be the brightest and most polite one there.

the receptionist nodded with a pleasant smile on her face, looking over at her computer screen and typing something on her keyboard. "stray kids, huh? personally, i never would have expected them to open auditions after their debut. anywho, did you have the flyer on you? i'm supposed to check it on entry."

i nodded, pulling out the flyer from the back pocket in my pants. the lady smiled sweetly and passed the flyer back to me. "the audition hall you're looking for is just down that corridor straight ahead, and then the third door on your left. good luck, sweetheart! you'll do great."

she pointed me in the right direction, and i thanked her gratefully before i headed off on my search for the audition room. and so the stress begun!

i opened the door quietly so as not to disturb anyone just incase, but to my surprise, there was a bunch of chatter filling the room, with a huge variety of around fifty people sprawled out everywhere. some were stretching, some practicing their dance moves, others running through vocal exercises, and some even just sitting down having a nice chat with each other.

upon my arrival in the room, a staff member greeted me cheerfully. "hey love! what's your name? i haven't seen you around before, so you mustn't be a JYP trainee."

"oh yeah hahah, i'm not from JYPE. my name is park yena." i responded carefully, adhering to what han jisung had asked of her -- not to tell anyone that he invited her to audition. of course, if she had to say something she would, but she thought it was better off like this for now.

"alrighty! i've got you down as number 19," she handed me a sticker with the number written on it. "make sure to place this in clear view. the numbers will be called at random. so, if your number hasn't been called by 12pm, we're having a little lunch in the cafeteria just across the hall if you're hungry. otherwise, you're still welcome to attend after your audition too. you're right to head inside!"

i nodded and thanked her gratefully. not wanting to feel like the odd one out of the crowd, i proceeded to take a seat on the floor in the empty corner of the room and started stretching my legs whilst scrolling on my instagram feed to keep myself entertained, and avoiding conversation with others.

"hey cutie," i looked up, and right above me was some older guy intensely staring me down. he sat right in front of me, considerably close. just close enough to feel slightly too uncomfortable with the distance between us. and he only leaned closer. "the name's nam kyuchin. and you are?"

"ready to leave," i remarked, as i grabbed my bag and stood up, but he grabbed ahold of my ankle, stopping me from moving. the panic was really starting to settle in from this interaction. i just wanted to get away from him immediately.

"not so fast, princess. i wasn't done talking to y-"

he was suddenly cut off by an official staff member making their way through the audition hall door. "everyone, auditions will begin now. first, we will be assessing your singing abilities. so, on your way through when your number has been called, please take a sheet from one of our friendly staff members that contains the song options you are permitted to sing and their corresponding lyrics. we will call you all one by one as this cannot be assessed in a group setting. thank you for your understanding. first up, can i please get number 19 to follow me to the audition room please?"

even though i was about to audition and sing in front of JYP, i felt strongly relieved to be out of the presence of that horrible person. gah, the damn creep touched my ankle. gross. i smirked at him in a sarcastic manner as i made my way over to the door that lead to the audition room, being sure to grab the song list before entering the room.
