"What the hell?! Why are there so many corpses around here?" a Jin disciple complained, his voice laced with fear as he continued to brandish his sword, his eyes darting nervously around the battlefield. The air was thick with the stench of decay and the sound of clashing steel, a symphony of chaos and despair.
Earlier, before they had ventured out to face the horde, Future Sizhui had insisted that Wei Wuxian stay behind in the inn together with the two female disciples and the children. He had even asked his youngest sister, Lan Yanli, to cling to her father, ensuring that Wei Wuxian wouldn't be able to leave their side.
Now, as the fierce corpses, attracted by their scent, descended upon them.
The battle was a desperate struggle, a fight for survival against an overwhelming force. The junior disciples of each sect continued to fight, their swords flashing in a desperate dance of defense, their faces grim with determination. They fought with a ferocity born of desperation, their courage fueled by a shared sense of purpose and a deep-seated loyalty to their sects.
Wei Wuxian was not worried even an inch, all because Lan Wangji also joined the fight and he trusted Sizhui's future self that his son had a plan.
Lan Yanli with the thought that her father was worried, held his hand tightly, her small voice filled with surprising confidence. "Da-ge is strong," she said, her eyes shining with admiration.
A young girl on her sun robes with an embroidery of clouds sewn around the shoulder, stood beside them, her face filled with a proud smile. She nodded in agreement, her voice filled with a sense of awe. "Everyone in the cultivation world in our timeline was scared of him," she said, her eyes wide with wonder. "He's a legend."
Wei Wuxian, his eyebrows shooting up in surprise, looked at the girl, his mind reeling. "Why?" he asked, his voice filled with curiosity. "What makes him so feared?"
Wen Qian, her eyes sparkling with excitement, was about to answer, but Lan Xiu, her hand shooting out to cover Wen Qian's mouth, stopped her mid-sentence. "They should hear the answer coming from our sect leader," she said, her voice a hushed whisper. "It's not our place to speak."
Wei Wuxian, his brow furrowed in frustration, immediately recited one of the rules: "Never cut off someone's words."
Lan Xiu, her lips biting into her lower lip, bowed her head, her cheeks flushing with shame. "I apologize, Senior Wei." She said, her voice filled with regret. "I was just trying to protect A-Qian. She's still young, and she doesn't always think before she speaks."
"A-Xiu!" Wen Qian protested.
Wei Wuxian, his frustration mounting, sighed in defeat. He had failed to gather any information from Wen Qian, his curiosity piqued by the girl's statement. He knew that there was more to the story, that there was a reason why his son was feared in their timeline, but he couldn't pry it out of them.
The chaotic battle raged on outside. Lan Zhan, his gaze fixed on the battlefield, observed the fight with a keen eye. He saw the way the disciples of the future fought, their movements swift and precise, their attacks fierce and unrelenting. He saw the way they moved, their steps light and agile, their bodies seemingly defying gravity.
He noticed that Future Sizhui, his son, was fighting with a different style of swordsmanship. He was using a technique that Lan Zhan had never seen before, a technique that seemed to blend the elegance of a certain sect's swordsmanship with a raw, primal power but he failed to recognize which sect. He saw the way Future Sizhui's eyes flickered with a strange energy, a power that seemed to emanate from within him.
He also noticed that Jingyi was fighting with a ferocity that belied his youthful appearance. He was using a technique that Lan Zhan recognized as the Wen sect's swordsmanship, but it was infused with a power that was both terrifying and exhilarating. He saw the way Jingyi's eyes gleamed with a cold, calculating intensity, his movements swift and deadly.
